Im currently using 8.11.x. I would like to upgrade to 8.12.2 due to better security.
1) Do i have to uninstall my current sendmail?
2) Can i just upgrade?
3) Is it going to be a nightmare?
Thanks

If you are using RedHat or Mandrake you could use the .rpm distro then use "rpm -Uvh *.rpm" This should upgrade your existing version and leave your configuration files alone. If they are not compatible with the new version, a backup copy will be made of those files.

Sendmail is platform independent for the most part. You can bring down the latest version from ftp://ftp.sendmail.org/pub/sendmail/. Go through the README and INSTALL documents (as per normal). Sendmail should detect your OS during compile. You don't need to remove and part of a previous installation (not like Windows ;-)). Although using RedHat's package manager might be easier for upgrades, Sendmail purist's usually choose to compile and install from Sendmail.org. (Redhat doesn't always play by the standard rules).
