Hello,

Since Framemaker 7.1 does not work on a Mac I was just wondering if this is a sign Framemaker is on it's way out. I have heard rumors that Framemaker might be going. I just wondered if anyone has heard anything about this.

Thanks.

Lots of rumours, but nothing to back them up. Even if they stopped producing FM on Windows, there's not not much wrong with the current release. There are still people using version 5.5 who won't use anything else. I certanly won't be rushing back to Word in a hurry!

If sunflower oil comes from sunflowers, and vegetable oil comes from vegetables, where does baby oil come from?

I was told by my companies software administrator that Adobe has told them that Framemaker will be dropped from the PC sometime in the next 24 months. Just as soon as they have their new product (whatever that is) ready for publication.

Means a whole lot of time convert from one product to another, for me.

I'd like to see that comment from Adobe in writing!

The oft touted software that is talked about as a Frame replacement in the Adobe line up is InDesign. Will take a severe overhaul to incorporate all the Frame functionality though.

I was just informed that this information was unofficial and that I shouldn't pass it along. So ignore my previous comment. But it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if this is what happens.

This question is quite important for me also, since I'm currently evaluating Framemaker 7.1 for writing my company's new software user's manual. If Adobe is going to toast Framemaker, then I would like to know and would consider another product before getting in too deep. Any other news in the grapevine?

Just another example of business putting no thought into what they are doing. Frame is hands down the best application for desktop publishing. And as far as ADOBE coming up with a new alternate, well, they have yet to demonstrate they understand desktop publishing. The products they have brought to the table in the past have paled in comparison to Frame, and it was a sad day when Frame Technologies sold out to them. Those of us who have used Frame since before the first version became avaulable for the PC are mourning our impending loss and wondering how we are going to be able to perform the tasks routinely required of us without any viable alternative.
