Dealing with selection criteria

I have 2 identically structured tables. I want to select the record if the value in table2.field1 does not exist in table1.field1

I've tried being creative with 'instr' and in [array], in both selection criteria and section expert, but either those aren't the answer or I wasn't creative enough.

Use a left join from {Table2.field1} to {Table1.field1}. Then use the following record selection formula:

isnull({table1.field1})
