I'm going to purchase Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows Server. I have (1) server running Windows Server 2008 and (9) Windows XP workstations to backup. One salesperson says I need to purchase the (10) licence Desktop/Laptop Option because the Server license only allows for (5). Another salesperson says the DLO option is something entirely different and in my case, I don't need it. Symantec's descriptions of their products are confusing to say the least.

I thought the server license allows you to install beremote.exe on the workstations and that's that.

Does anyone know if the DLO option is necessary?

thanks.

Server license does allow you to backup remote XP machines without purchasing extra Remote agent license or DLO licenses.

Installing the Backup Exec remote agent allow you to protec the entire workstation.

Dlo agent does NOT protect the entire workstation. It only protech user documents and outlook PST files. It also allow for file versioning and users to restore thier own data.

Some use the combination for the Backup Exec remote agent and DLO together.

You need agents for every remote machine You backup or you can use the DLO option and change the direction to another folder that You create on the machines.
