I found a HP Pavillion 6535 at the dump. It has 64 MB SDRAM. Can I put this RAM chip in my Compaq 5716, PIII, 450 MHz, w/96 RAM? I don't know if the Compaq has SDRAM.

Thanks, Kerry

You can take a look at your motherboard to see if it supports SDRAM, which should because you have a P3 processor. However, it might be incompatible with your existing RAM(I am not sure about this as I have not dealt with hardware stuffs for a long time). You can just slot the RAMs in and you will know if it is compatible or not :)

Leon

Most SDRAM is compatiable but it is advisable to check your user manual for your mobo to see if the type of RAM is compat.

It would also depend on what type of SDRAM you already have in your machine and the speed of both the RAM and Mobo. You can not use a 66 or 100 MHz RAM if your system is running at 133 but you can use 133,150 in slower machines.

Most of the good manufacturers put a sticker on the sticks to identify the speed so that should be easy to check. In the back of your book you will find a chart of the RAM manufacturers and the type of RAM that the system can use.
