Can I replace a failed Compaq 9.1 7,200 RPM hot-swapable disk with a 10,000 RPM unit in the same array. The contoller is a Smart 2/DH in a Proliant 1600.

Thanks,

Renne

I do not know how it is on compaq, but we'd some errors in Sun-Storage because the 10000'er spend too much warmth so our serverlost some directories after some time.
be careful and ask yr dealer if the array is supported with that kind of disks

Never done it but I have replaced a 10000 disk with a 15000 one. You won't get faster access speed though until all disks have been replaced.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

I agree. The faster disk should step down to the lower disks speed.
