Hi!
Im working on win98 OS, with office2000 and norton antivirus 2002, in a new computer that wrks quite well.

I have a very irritating problem:
When I try to open the pad "gallery" of the "Microsoft Word assistant", I get the following message:

WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in
module WINMM.DLL at 0177:bfe13531

I get the same kind of problem when i try to open the norton antivirus display:

NMAIN caused an invalid page fault in
module WINMM.DLL at 0177:bfe13531

Could you tell me what to do? Is it a hardware problem that masks itself as a page fault problem or what ?

thanks in advanced,

Assuming all affected programs are updated, Word and NAV, I found the following
___________________________________________________________________
Error: "NMAIN caused an invalid page fault in module WINMM.DLL" when using Norton SystemWorks 2002

Situation:
You start Norton SystemWorks 2002 (NSW) and as you bring the mouse pointer over the NSW Integrator, you see the error message: "NMAIN caused an invalid page fault in module WINMM.DLL...."

Solution:
This problem has been reported to Symantec Technical Support, but we have not been able to reproduce the problem. The cause is not known, and there is no solution at this time. We will continue to track this problem, and this document will be updated if new information becomes available or a solution is found.

As a possible solution, try the following:

1. Disable sounds in Norton AntiVirus. See the document How to disable the sounds in Norton AntiVirus for instructions.
2. Reinstall the Windows Script Host by downloading and installing the version that is appropriate for your operating system. The Windows Script Host is available from Microsoft.
3. Reinstall the Microsoft Shared Library from the NSW CD using the following instructions:
Insert the NSW 2002 CD into the CD-ROM drive while holding down the Shift key to prevent the CD from automatically starting. If the CD starts anyway, click Exit on the Installation dialog box.
Click Start, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
In the Open field, type: <drive>:\msshlib\setup.exe where <drive> is the drive letter for your CD-ROM. Click OK to start the installation of the Microsoft Shared Libraries.

Regarding the Winword generated error try the following..(excerpt from Symantec Knowledge Base)

To disable the NAV Microsoft Office plug-in:

1. Close Microsoft Office if it is running.
2. Start NAV.
3. Click Options, and then click Miscellaneous.
4. Uncheck the Enable Office plug-in entry located under "How to keep Microsoft Office documents protected."
5. Click OK.

This suggestion answers the premise that the errors with Winmm.Dll are usually caused by two applications
causing a conflict with the Winmm.Dll file.

Additional but unlikely possibilities..

-If your computer has been infected by the W32.Goner.A@mm worm, then that worm has removed some NAV program files.
-DDHELP file exploit or Directx upgrade required.
-When NAV was installed it replaced some Windows98 system files with different version.

Good Luck smitee
