Hello guys

I have a cisco AP 340 but i am not able to work it at all!!!
The major problem is that when i plug the one end of the ethernet cable to my pc ethernet adapter and the other to the AP, then the windows XP doesnt notice me that there is a network connection in the window "my network places". As you can guess when i use the IPSU utility it tells "device does not answer". I have a D-link AP and i do the same and windows XP finds that the computer is attached with an access point and i can very easily "insert" to the web based confiugration window of the D-Link AP. HOW I will "insert" to the configuration of my cisco AP?

Thank you for reading my mail...please give me an anwser too
because its getting on my nerves!!!

The AP 340 comes up with a default address of 10.0.0.1 for 5 minutes, then goes on to send out DHCP requests indefinitely. It may be that you are not using a PC in the sam subnet during this time. The options loom to be to set a suitablke address in the PC (10.0.0.2 for instance) & try to make contact withi 5 minutes, or to set your PC as a DHCP server.

See for advice

Thanks for answering...

My pc address is set to 10.0.0.2 as you suggest too. I have installed access points before (D-link) and i didnt have these problems. I forgot to say that in the taskbar of windows XP it notices me that a network cable is unplugged!! windows XP cannot see that a network equipment has been attached. Very interesting the fact that cisco AP holds the default IP address for 5 minutes. Can windows XP behave like a DHCP server or i need server 2003?

Thanks again...

If your PC tells you a cable is unplugged, is the cable the issue?

I have not found a definitive answer, but the AP340 will normally connect to a switch port with a straight cable. To use a PC you might need a crossover for the Cisco AP, while a straight cable may work with the D-link.

Neither XP Home or Pro cannot supply a DHCP service, but your router (if you have one) might.

hello again,

My PC tells that a cable is unplugged and i think that its the TYPE of the cable that creates the problem.I tried to plug a crossover cable and it didnt worked too. I think that this access point cannot be configured with a crossover cable neither with an ethernet. It has a socket in which the word "serial" is written. Maby i must connect a serial cable with the Access point to configure it...I will try it

thanks again

Maybe the interface ethernet is shutdown, and that's why windows XP notices you that a network cable is unplugged!!
Try with the console cable.
