I have a IPoffice that I inherited from a phone company installation, I think I have most things mapped out but still coming up to speed on how everything works. We have 96xx phones, running 6.2.4 but from going through everything I do not see a http server setup.

The reason I ask is I have an older phone and the firmware is not getting updated. Everything appears to be working, if I go to the http:/ipoffice/46settings and the 96x1Hupgrade file display properly but I'm not sure where to look for the firmware files. If I look on th ipoffice server I get an embedded file server error.

What I am thinking is that the system was never really fully operational since I think that an http server needs to be in place to serve up the images. When I look on the pc that they installed the IP manager software I do find some tar files in the ipoffice directory but not the ones that they are referencing in the upgrade file.

Any guidance would be appreciated, thanks.

the system can be used as http server and supply the files.

The files are on the SD card.

Pretty basic stuff

Yeah I assumed that to be the case but is there a way I can go to the directory via a web browser. If I go to the base URL it comes up with the status page, if I put in the settings file or the upgrade I can have those displayed. But if I put in the .tar files, and maybe I am using the wrong one but I am reading from the 96Hupgrade file, I get an embedded file server error.

What is the best and easiest way to verify the contents of the SD card, looking on manager its not clear whats the best way to verify that. Actually I'd like to make a copy of the SD card to have as a backup, I need to look into that also.

The issue I was seeing is I had an old phone that when I tried to add it, the extension login would come up and when I entered the extension/password it just sat there. I'm not sure at what point does it upgrade the firmware in the phones, i'm still learning.

Any additional information would be appreciated, thanks.

Simplest thing would be to manually reboot a couple of phones. Watch the display you'll see the a file request for the settings file, and you'll see a whether it gets a successful response code (200) or some kind of failure (400 range, 500 range or timeout). Also obviously look in the IP Office system configuration to see what its been set to do if a phone asks it for a file.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

...also, the older phone may simply be configured with a static address for a file server from whichever system it was previously on.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

The phone hits bothe the upgrade and settings bits, and continues to the extension part. What I do not see if the phone has upgraded the firmware. If I look at the phone itself its still running and older version of firmware then whats called out in the in the 96Hupgrade file.

I did a factory reset on the values on the phone and it boots fine up until you need to enter an extension, and when you enter the extension it just hangs and doesnt fully register. I think its the firmware and would like to upgrade it, since I dont think thats happening on boot.

After doing a lot of reading on the installation and how things works I think I have a much better understanding about how it all works. The sad part is that it appears that who the church paid to do the installation did a very poor job and the phone system is actually mis-configured, its a testament to the system that it works. Very sad that they paid for the upgrade and its nowhere near a complete installation. :(

My understanding was that you needed a seperate http server to serve up the 96xx phones files, but according to the doc's you can use ipoffice but for only about 50 phones, this installation is around 30 so I think it should work.

The main issue appears that the auto-generated upgrade software (.tar files) are not contained on the SD card. I'm not sure you can pull old versions of avaya code down since I have been unable to find that on their website. If anyone knows where you can get 6.2.0 9608 and 9611 software please let me know, I do have later versions but I know the version they are using right now works.

It has been a learning experience for sure.
