Scenario:

A IPoffice 412 equipped with 30 VCM card, 3 x 30 analog module, 1 x 30 digital DS module, 1x16 analog trunk module, 4 E1 trunks, VoicemailPro and CCC, and 35 IP phone's on a remote office (model 4606 and 4602) with enough bandwidth (more than 3 Mbps, bandwidth is not a limitation for us ).

All people use the phone manager application.

Does the IPO scale well having this amount of IP phones ?

I have the perception that many IP phones cause software instability on the IPoffice, It is true ?

Does the IPoffice fully equipped has good performance ?

Does any have experience in similar scenarios ?

What happends with the same scenario with Softphone instead of IP hardphone , or a combination of both ?

Any ideas and suggestions about this topic will be welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Gustavo.

35 IP hardphones shouldn't even make the 412 break a sweat. A much bigger concern is QoS to your remote office, and QoS capable switches at that office. Have you provided for this?

You mentioned 3M bandwidth - is that upstream and downstream, or like adsl is that downstream only?

Don't consider deploying softphone, more potential problems and no reason to. By the time you factor in a good quality headset (USB or soundcard) you are paying the same price, and the hardphone will still give you better quality (not to mention it works even if your computer crashes). Softphone shines for mobile worker w/laptop applications.

For that many phones I would give SERIOUS consideration to a 403 with VCM 5 or 10 instead. Then you A/ have local survivability B/ potential for toll bypass network C/ users at remote site don't have to pay long distance to call their wife across the street.

Thanks Morrack,

Bandwidth is not a problem for us, we can put a dedicated
8 Mbps or more if we need, in both downlink and uplink.

So, bandwidth , delay and jitter is not a problem for us.

Did you see another problem with 35 IP hardphones onto a ipoffice 412 , like memory/cpu/vcm-codec performance degradation ?

or software instabilities caused by the H.323 protocols, etc, etc ?

Regards.

Gustavo

1° If possible wait for the next 2.1 maintenace release
2° Turn off faststart on all phones
3° Don't use hotdesking on your IP Phones

What's mean "hotdesking" ?.

We are thinking in an intensive use of the system, including
the 35 IP hardphones.

What's the better recommendation and how ?

We have a client with about 40 IP hansets on a 403 over 5 sites hot desking not an issue runiing 2.0(18)

Also runs call centre at the central site with 5 agents

looking at the config I would suspect that you have a high troughput of calls
the 1 thing I can think of that may cause you problems is VCM channel availability

you will only be able to make 30 calls betweeen IP & Non IP locations (ip Phone to externbal line, digital phone or alog phone) ip phone to IP phone is not a problem
in most cases I would say that 30 channels is more than enough, but with a call center i am not so sure. it all depends on where you intend having the calls answewred.

Don't forget conference calls and VMS access all take VCM resources for the entire length of the call. Still - 30 vcm for 35 phones is pretty darn close, but as IPGuru pointed out if those 35 phones are agents that will be on shift simultaneously, better add a second vcm in that 412 - perhaps a VCM 10 to allow for a bit of expansion.

If they are not agents and aren't constantly on the phone you should be ok with just the 30 though - especially since when they call each other it only needs a vcm channel for call setup.
