Hi Guys,

anyone ever tried to connect an analogue extension from an SOE to a router that will support analogue signalling conversion then use the Internet/VPN to connect to another router with the analogue device connected the other end rather like a DECT cordless phone for example?

This used to be possible over leased lines with a em15 gateway If I recall and I cannot see why it cannot be done over the Internet with the right kit?

Any ideas anyone?

You can use a voip gateway with an fxs port connected to the ip office.
You can either set it up as a trunk (h323) or as an extension.

To be able to do it as an extension you need the 3rd party ip endpoint license which costs almost as much as an ip phone so its better that you buy an Avaya ip phone straight away.

Cheers.

I agree about the IP Phone but he wants cordless which means the Avaya cordless system which means mega dosh!

This idea seems more practical as a Seimens DECT cordless is about £50.00 and he has to buy two routers either way which may as well be with VOIP gateways and H323 enabled and the endpoint license I guess.

You can do it with cisco routers and FXS/FXO ports. put the ciscos on both ends and plug them in a station on one end and then a phone or trunk port on another PBX at the remote. we had a customer do this with 4 analog stations in the us and then 4 trunks in India. worked great. then you dont have to worry about licenses or trying to get the IPO to talk to a gatway. it is all analog as far as the IPO is concerned.

look at the gateways, they will do the job, but you will two if them as I have not tried terminating a call from one directly on the IPO via H323, also if you want fax you will need 2 as the IPO does not support T.38

The remote site is a domestic address where my client works from home and may be stroling around his house but still wants to take calls from the office. This is why he wants DECT cordless.

I beleive that reading all your comments it can be done and as he wants cordless over an IP Phone he will just have to pay to have the right equipment to do it.

I'll look at the Multitech option MrIPO but I suspect the Cisco option will be expensive although this is how I would have expected to be able to use an analogue extension using FXS/FXO emulation.
