IPO500 Expansion Modules Flashing green

I have an IP0500 stack, rev 6.1 (can't remember the exact rev). The main unit is new and has one 8-port digital station card and one 8-port analog station card. Connected are 3 expansion cabinets.

IPO500 - 16 DS
IPO400 - 16 DS
IPO400 - Analog Trunk

About 60% of the time if we power up the entire stack at once, one or both of the two 16 DS modules will go into a flashing green light state and not all of the ports on them will function. The Analog Trunk module comes up 100% of the time. They've all been upgraded to the firmware that came with the newest 6.1 release.

If we power on the two 16DS units first, let them come to a solid green state, then power up the main unit, happy as a clam.

Any thoughts? It's a construction site so I can see them losing power at some point and having to walk them through this special sequence.

Have had a similar issue lately - our resolution was to hook up an battery backup that lets you stage the power ports... we have the exp modules set to power up as soon as power is reapplied, and about 30 seconds later we power up the IPO - seems to work like a charm.

The modules should be up and running before the ipo is but apparently the don't.
Why do you power it down so much?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I have the same issue on construction sites, sometimes they have power cuts that last beyond the UPS, this is a pain in the ass as they need to reach around the back of the UPS to power the units up individually, Avaya need to make the system better at synching up during a simultaneous power up, sometimes it works but mostly not :)

I have the same issue with a client. The Trunk 16 always synch's properly, but the digital 16 always comes on blinking green until they power down, and re-power in the correct order. I have labeled the power cords for them as 1, 2, and 3 so they know which to plug in first, second, and third when they lose power.

Glad to see I'm not alone here.

amriddle01 hit the nail on the head. It's a construction site and they're always taking the power down to the construction trailers to tap into lines for the permanent facilities, etc. To make it worse, right now the trailers don't even have a real power feed. That's still being installed. To allow people to work, the trailers are being fed by a big generator for 9 hours a day and we're cleaning up power to the IPO and servers with a UPS that supports boost/trim and frequency clean up.

Sounds like a design flaw in the software, on Avaya's part. And it seems like something that was introduced more recently. I don't recall ever having this issue in rev 4.x and below.

For now, we're going to plug the expansion modules directly into the UPS and the main unit in a switched power strip that plugs into the UPS. That way if I have to walk somebody through the power up sequence, they won't have to reach around the back.

Indeed, it has got worse with the 500v2, used to work 99% with 500 and below, now with 500v2's maybe 80/20 between it not working and working, though my main issue has been Phone 30 modules, but either way it's the modules :)
