We need to expand the available trunks on our SOE beyond the 4 analog ones it ships with. We've opted for PRI since we're getting a converged service T1. It is my understanding that the PRI card is the same that runs in the 406, 700185200. Are there any known issues with running PRI in SOE, and is it a simple install in the field.
Thanks in advance!

Only the PRI T1 card is supported in the SOE.
The E1 is not but i never tried to see if it works or not.
The second problem is that those cards are end of sale for a while already.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

why not sell the customer a new solution. explain the SoE is no longer supported by avaya and therefore you will also be canning support for it to keep pace with current products.

pays to milk the existing cows rather than find new ones sometimes.

As HSM recommended, upgrade the proc.
Both the SOE and the older PRI card were pretty pricey at around $2,500 at NPL in their day. A new IP500 with combo card, pri (8 channels) and a phone 2 is about the same at NPL. Plus, you get the current hardware/firmware and room for growth.
IMO, it is easier to move forward now.

Let's for a second say it's your business, not a customers. the SOE has served your needs well, and the office space won't allow growth beyond the 8 PRI channels being provided by the converged service, and the 8DS,4A,16VCM endpoints the SOE can support. The SOE is still under an Avaya maintenance contract and for $200 one can get a refurbished PRI card with a 1yr warranty and get that written into the Avaya maintenance. It's a bit more difficult to justify spending $2500. In addition, the office in question is interconnected to 2 others using SCN that are either SOE or IP406 running the same firmware version.

Swap the 406 with the SOE and put the PRI in the 406, but only if the 406 hasen't already got a PRI. But it depends all on how many extension you have now on the 406.

It works! Now if only I could remember what I did...

The 406 already with a PRI is in use in another much larger office so this is not a viable option.

Hairless, are you feeling ill???

if the 406 with the PRI still has room for some more outcalling traffic then send the calls over the SCN out the PRI that exists there. Otherwise try it out with the PRI card and if it should happen to crap out you can always find a used 406V2 somewhere and put that in.
I have a SOE at home and would love to upgrade to a IP500V2 but that is money I don't need to spend as my system works fine.
I know we recommend upgrades but in that case it would be a lot of money to upgrade all sites plus more licensing to get the SCN working again
OR
just had a better idea even, SOE goes up to 4.2 and that means SIP trunks, no additional hardware and mine works great.
Problem solved good night

@Westi do you have the part number for the SOE SIP trunk licenses handy. If I recall we'll need one license per simultaneous call even if your SIP provider supports multiple calls per trunk.

thanks westi. so you've have good results with SIP on the SOE? I'm seriously considering the SIP route now. I've always just gone with Analog or PRI to avoid unnecessary quality issues. However, these converged services and devices are using VoIP anyway and just varying the hand-off on CP based on what the local PBX supports (Analog,PRI or SIP) so it's probably a moot point.

I use SIP trunks since 2007 and got my hands on the SOE Sept. 2008 upgrading all the way to 4.2 never had issues.
I actually use 2 different providers just in case one goes down I have the other one.
