Has anyone had to downgrade an IPO SE from v10.0 to 9.1? The licenses that were originally issued were for 9.1. I did the license migration and while waiting for the v10 PLDS upgrade, I upgraded the server to v10. Now Avaya is asking for a new license migration file due to an issue with the one I already sent and is saying that it needs to be done on the 9.1 Server. I'm not sure if transferring the 9.1 iso through web manager is an option and reloading the entire iso and rerunning ignition will change the System ID which will void the licenses anyway. Any ideas are appreciated.

The licenses are based on MAC address and IP address so if your physical server is not changing that, your licenses will be valid again after downgrading.
Having that said I never did it but Avaya should get their head out of their rectum for the licensing. There are so many problems with the licensing that I think they should get this sorted out properly before going any further.

For virtual servers the MAC should still be the same as well and you should also be good.

All theoretical knowledge though.
Snapshots are a great thing :) if it fails just upload the snapshot again.

I should have noted that this is a "real" server, HP R630. I also just tried transferring the iso through web manager and it failed giving me the message " Transfer operation failed. Reason: Available version is higher. Cannot create repo data". So at this point, is my only option re-imaging the server and hoping the license is still valid?

Open a config backup with Manager and pull the migration XML again. Be aware that virtual licenses perhaps will be missing. So compare carefully what you need.

Read the manuals... You can enable downgrading if you login with SSH. I never had to do that myself.

And never ever upgrade a system if you don't have the valid licenses for the new release!

Hi,
Was just about to post untill i saw this issue.
I have 9.1 which i want to migrate to SE v10 with secondary backup.
I did ask avaya how to proceed, which they said, i need to upgrade the ipo to rls.10..convert the licenses to PLDS.
once i get this file, i can transfer the same on SE Rls 10.
Is this correct? will all licenses be transferred?.
Can i upload the same backup on SE? as there are around 200 users in this rls IPO..

your help would be much appreciated.

Migration to PLDS is done in one step with the upgrade to R10.

Connect to the running R9.1 with R10 Manager and get the migration XML. Upload it into Avaya One Source. You will see a table listing the existing licenses and those you will get as R10 PLDS licenses. You can add further licenses (in your case another Server Edition license) if needed.

If you have the new license you can upload the license file and start the upgrade process. Upgrading a system without having the needed licenses is kind of a self murder.

Derfloh. I've been doing this long enough that I should have known better. I did the license migration and sent the zip (xml) file to our distributer who does the licensing for us. I was told everything was good and to expect the new license shortly so I went ahead with the upgrade just trying to be proactive and save some time. Lesson learned!! There were some issues with how the licenses were originally purchased and Avaya rejected the request. There may have been a conflict with the SD card that was in one of the gateways which has now been replaced. Now that the issues have been resolved, Avaya wants a brand new license migration file at v9.1. I also spoke with Avaya tier 3 support who also said that a server edition downgrade from v10 to v9.1 wasn't possible and I would need to re-image. I will look for the downgrade info you mentioned when I get back to the office tomorrow. Thank you!!

when (or if) you find downgrade information send it to the tier 3 guy you talked to and tell him to start reading their own manuals.

got nosy and this is what the knowledgebase says, could not find any SSH info
apologies to tier 3 [blush]

Downgrade configuration data
Both Minor and Major Server Edition downgrades are supported, however for a major downgrade you need to install Server Edition again:

and this is also there
You can perform a Major Linux server downgrade, for example, a downgrade from 9.0 to 8.1 or from 9.1 to 9.0 GA only by reinstallation and re-ignition. Do not attempt to downgrade a component through the Web Manager. In addition, all servers require downgrade because IP Office Server Edition Solution does not support mixed versioning.

Hi,
my last part of the question. will the backup of 9.1 work on rls 10. server edition?

Thanks Westi, that's the exact document the Avaya tech showed me. I've already started reinstalling server edition.

cplatt7 today is the perfect day to do it, not a lot of phone traffic on Presidents Day

let us know if you could just install the R10 backup into the R9.1 server like edvy123 asked because I would think yes but never did it.
