Hi guys. I'm a new poster on these forums but have been reading all of your tips for several weeks now. I've been setting up an IP Office 500 system and have been doing pretty well so far. I just had our PRI line installed (16 channel) and I'm trying to configure the system to use it. I really just wanted to see if anyone has any resources on a basic overview of how this setup will work. From what I've been reading it should be relatively straight forward however I am a systems/networking guy, not a telecom guy at all so my knowledge of such is limited. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Mortigan

And you didn't read this thread?

I read that thread but using the info in there leaves me with a few settings unexplained and after doing my best to fill in the rest I'm left with no lines to work with. It should be mentioned that this is my first time even using an IP Office product, I've used I3, Call Manager, and Asterisk, but my only Avaya experience is with the very small scale Partner line of products.

What type of line do you have, a E1 or a T1?
E1 = Euro ISDN, T1 = North America ISDN.

There is quite a difference, i know all about E1 and almost nothing about T1 ( i am very happy with that ).

Euro ISDN is very easy:
You have a incoming and outgoing ID, the incoming ID is used for routing incoming calls through the Incoming Call Route and the outgoing ID is used by shortcodes to send specific ( or all ) dialled numbers to a particular line.

Further more on the Line tab you have a parameter called "CRC", with E1 lines you either have CRC check or not, as simple as that. If CRC does not work then disable it. Leave the number of channels on 30, there is no need to change that although you have only 16 channels in use, the PSTN provider determines which and how many channels you can use.

For E1 thats basically everything.

T1 is just as easy intrigrant as long as the line provider has someone that actually speaks English when you turn it up.
Switch type is mostly NI2
Channel allocation 1-23 when the line provider does 23-1 or vice versa
Clock quality : Network (for the first PRI only the second one is fallback)
Framing is ESF
Zero Suppression is B8ZS
Line Signaling is CPE
incoming digits (as many as the provider sends you)
these are the most common settings and work 90% of the time

@Bas1234 - I'm working on getting the trace you requested and am currently connected to the Monitor with the parameters you specified selected. I realize that this is most likely more simple than I'm making it but how exactly do I post you the trace? Is this what you're looking for:

Please forgive me if I'm not getting you the correct information. I'm very new at this and am doing my best to comply.

@ Westi and Intigrant -- THanks for the information, I've tried the settings that both of you provided but it is still not working. I've posted a trace from my Monitor but I'm not sure I'm posting the correct info. Please let me know if there's any information I can provide to you that may help clarify the problem. I'm trying to contact the provider to verify things with them as well in the meantime.

What is your locale? I think you have a T1, try the options Westi gave you.

OK, I'll try his settings again. One thing that I'm not 100% clear on is the line sub type selection box. I currently have it selected to PRI but am unclear if that is correct. I suppose a little more background may help as well. Our circuit is not necessarily typical, we have a ethernet-over-copper device that is feeding into an Adtran which in turn feeds into the phone system. I was told by the provider that the Adtran passes the connection off to the IPO as a PRI which is why I have the PRI sub type selected. I may be mis-understanding and therefor mis-configuring things.

Your best bet is to rent the services of a certified business partner who DOES know what they're doing. The total install time will probably be a fraction of what you've currently got invested.
Mike

First of all you should have a link light on for the PRI trunk. Then you should probably say what part of the world the PRI is connected and who the Provider is.

@ Mforrence -- I agree completely with this statement, however this is currently not an option as I am not in charge of the budget and have been tasked with the project. If my knowledge turns out to be too limited to work through this issue then I understand. I DO want to make sure everyone here knows how much I appreciate all the help though. I've been using the postings here throughout the entire process and regardless of whether or not anyone is able to help with this specific issue, I've already gained a substantial amount of knowledge from these forums and I sincerely thank you all for it. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do.

Thanks.

Sounds familiar. Sounds like a point to point T1 that is delivered as ethernet. Are you in Pittsburgh PA?

OK, just an update, as of right now the PRI is DOWN and has been for some time. I thought this might have been the case however the provider assured me it was online until I just called back and really grilled him. I'm waiting on a call back now and will update as soon as I have more info. Thanks everyone for your patience.

Classic..... gotta love those providors :)

Yep
we have all been there, more then once, LOL.

Andrew is probably already enjoying his beer reading this and counting his blessings that he is not working any more.

So the PRI line is back up according to the rep but I'm still unable to get an outside line. I've checked all my settings with him and have no idea what the problem could be. I'm going to post another trace file in this post just in case anyone comes up with any more ideas to try:

Do you have a license for extra channels ?
By default your pri card has only 8 channels !
Your trace does not include any usefull information

Start the trace and make a call and then stop the trace
