Do i need the VOIU board for the ip phones to work?

Hi Donsam

No, you do only need the VOIB:
The VOIB board can be installed on the basic MBU. It
provides the Ethernet interface for S/W applications and VoIP features, like IP trunk and IP phones.
There exists an optional VoIP daughter board.(VOIU)

Maximum Capacity: 8 channels
-VOIB provides four(4) VoIP channels.
-VOIU provides four(4) VoIP channels.

If you use softphones, then a license per user is needed.

Here is my "way" install an IP phone:
(In this example the LIP-24 IP Phone is used, but this wil work with any other LG-Nortel IP phone):
----------------------------------------------------

LIP-24 is connected to a WAN IP address.

LIP-24 will write the following in the display when the power is connected:

NO RESPONSE FROM MFIM [L]
SET [*] - Retry [#]

Key *
MODE setting.
Put LIP-24 REMOTE
Enter the volume down arrow.

The following addresses and parameters shown in the accompanying agreement papers.

PHONE IP ADDRESS (DOT: *)
Enter here the IP address of LIP-24. Use the asterisk (*) as a point to be used within the numbers in the IP address.
IP address must be entered manually, because it can not be assigned through DHCP.
Remember to press SAVE after each input.
Enter the volume down arrow.

PHONE NET MASK (DOT: *)
Here, enter the subnet mask for LIP-24. Use the asterisk (*) as a point to be used within the numbers in the IP address.
Subnet mask must be entered manually, because it can not be assigned through DHCP.
Remember to press the SAVE button after each input.
Enter the volume down arrow.

ROUTER IP ADDRESS (DOT: *).
Here, enter the default gateway for the LIP-24. Use the asterisk (*) as a point to be used within the numbers in the IP address.
Subnet mask must be entered manually, because it can not be assigned through DHCP.
Remember to press the SAVE button after each input.
Enter the volume down arrow.

LIP-24 then ask about:
SAME WITH MFIM LAN?
Set this to NO. Default is to YES.
Remember to press the SAVE button after typing in each entry. Enter the volume down arrow.

MFIM IP ADDRESS (DOT: *)
Here enter the IP address for the ipLDK-60 (VOIB) must be entered.
Use the asterisk (*) as a point to be used within the numbers in the IP address.
Subnet mask must be entered manually, because it can not be assigned through DHCP.
Remember to press the SAVE button after each input.
Enter the volume down arrow.

There are additional items that can be set as needed:
INPUT DEVICE NUMBER
DHCP (Disabled) (not used in appliances in the LOCAL mode).

VLAN CONFIGURATION (If telephony data to travel in separate VLAN specified number here. VLAN number is entered, according to data in agreement papers).

WEB PASSWORD this is not optional.

Then restart the LIP phone.

If registraion fails, you might have forgotten to enter the MAC address of the IP Phone in PGM286.
