We have a prospective customer whose Voicemail has blown up. We have a replacement, but they had 24+ unified messaging licences. Do they need to purchase more licences from NEC? Is that even possible now that the IPK is no longer supported? As a trouble shooting method, can the flash be taken off of one VM card and used on another? Sorry...lots of questions bunched together, but have never run into this scenario before.

You can move the flash card over to the other card to test it.

Turns out I get onsite and things are not as bad as I was told. Voicemail is an Elitemail LX. They have 2 problems. 1)When going to a subscriber mailbox and leaving a message the system says to do so after the beep...then there is no beep. 2)They have 35 licenses for Visual Messaging seats and all other programming (email addresses, notification, etc) seems to be okay, but they are not getting vmail to email notification. Any ideas...anyone...anyone...belevedere?

1) Go to System - Configuration - Recordings and change the setting "Beep on record" to yes.

2) To answer your initial question you are probably not going to be able to purchase (or move) seats at this point, but you may want to check with your dealer. You could try Belevedere's suggestion and putting the original flash card onto the new card and see if that works. If all else fails you can do a "push" type of messaging where the voicemail is simply forwarded to the email system without any licensing. This can be done by using Putty to go into the card and defining the email server. I can provide more info if needed for this configuration. Also, if I am not mistaken the LX has 5 seats built into the card at default.

Thank you gmannati. The suggestion for "Beep On Record" worked well. Any documentation available for setting up Unified Messaging? I've a bunch of manuals...nothing relates directly to that, as in step-by-step. Got licensing. Got 5 mailboxes set for email addresses. Do I need to set any particular access options? This used to work on this VM board before they had power issues, and everything but this works now except UM...HELP

Get Putty (or any other SSH client) and SSH to the VM's IP address. Once connected you will need to shutdown the voice mail using the menu. Then once it is stopped you will go into the configuration . . . I don't have the manual in front of me nor remember all of these options by memory, however there is not a lot here and you shouldn't have any trouble getting around in here. Anyway, what you are looking for is the email server settings. You will then simply define the SMTP settings for the mail server they are using. This can be external, but make sure the network settings are appropriate (in these menus as well). Once the server settings and name are defined startup the VM again.

What you need to change in the VM is in the Access Options at the bottom you will have several options about how you want messages to forward which are self explanatory. Then on the general? settings for the user define the mail server name you setup within the SSH setting for the user. DONE!
