This seems like it should be a pretty basic thing, but I cannot figure it out for the life of me. Coming from a Key system, so maybe I just don't understand the process. If I receive a call on one phone and use a park button with no action data assigned, I can only unpark it from that phone. However if I assign a number in the action data, calls can be parked from one phone and unparked from any other phone.

Using the unassigned park button, the call shows to be parked. Pressing the park/unpark button on other phones shows an empty list with only an exit softkey.
All of the phones are Model 9508's

I don't really want to fill up the buttons that we have available with specific park/unpark keys.

Let me know what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks,
Josh

i think there are default short codes you can use to park and unpark calls, if not you could create short codes for each

You can definitely do this. What I have done in the past is create a user unique on the dialplan of the system (say extension 70).

Then, create short codes to accomplish it:

*10
Call Park
700

Transfer and then *10 will Park the call in slot "0" of extension 70.

#10
Unpark Call
700

Go to any phone and press #10 and grab the call from slot 0 of x70.

I have created *10, *11, *12, with corresponding #10, #11, #12 (you will need to change a few other sc to accomplish this).

Otherwise, you can obviously use whatever short code makes sense to the customer.

@gknight: Ok the short codes seem to work, but that's a lot of typing on a keypad. I thought pressing the park button while not on a call would show you all parked calls, regardless of who parked them. seems like that would be a useful function. Based on this I set a park button on the phone and an unpark button that just dials the short code (*38*) which requires them to enter the park number and the # key.

@Telecomboy: Would you dial *10 while on a call? It doesn't seem very professional for the person on the other end of the line hearing all those button presses.

It would be nice if you could just see all parked calls on the display.

The caller doesn't hear it you don't dial codes in call, also you should only need a couple of predefined park keys, use transfer instead that's the best way to do it, if it's random people transfer to a group and have then answer if they want the call :)

When do you put in the short code to park them? This is for people who work out in the shop and don't have assigned phones/vm or people who are far away from their desk and need urgent calls from any phone.

Then a couple of pre defined keys on each handset should be enough, once answered the slot is available again so you don't need loads of them unless hey are incredibly busy then all those pages would get annoying :)

That makes sense. You're right, most calls would be transferred and only a few would need to be paged. I am curious though as to how you would use a short code to park a call.

Ok, I'm just going with two static park buttons. Thanks for the help everyone.
