Hi,

We have a customer with an old IP office and we want to change out to a new IP500 with all IP phones, the customer is currently in the process of moving all his data hardware off site to a data center and wants to know if we can also locate the IP500 chassis in the center as well?. The data center and head office will be linked via a 100MB leased line and the customer understands that he will need to change to IP handsets on site, anyone done a similar set up ? and are there any pitfalls to be aware off? The customer plans to supply SIP trunks to the data center and port all his numbers.

Thanks

Shouldn't be an issue as long as all the networking is correct and security taken care of.

Only thing would be rack space in the DC. It might be better looking at a virtual SE in the DC rather than hardware. Access to the DC might be fun if the PSU blows/it needs a power cycle/software update goes wrong/SD card needs changing/etc!!!

We have at least 1 customer that ha done this
provided the data link is stable it should not be an issue

One thing that does cause problems however is if access to the system is needed for fault investigation, this can be a PITA for the field engineer.

Personally i would always prefer the equipment on site, at lest then when bob the builder dig up the road & kills the data link some things still work.

I would verify that the ported numbers from the old site are still registered with 911 to the old address for safty reasons.

* given to BudByrd as this is indeed another consideration, even in countries like the UK that don't have an E11 system (you need to be sure that emergency calls reach the correct call centre)

I dont see an issue, make sure you have a reliable Site2Site.
