Hi heres the scenario, I want to connect a Symantec Gateway 320 appliance between my dsl router and my LAN. Question is what IP addresses do i use for the interface that links the router and the symantec appliance?? I know i have a public IP on the WAN end of the router that connects the Internet, I currently have a local IP on the LAN end to access the LAN, now what do I put on the WAN end of the symantec where the LAN interface connects to it, a public IP or another local IP?

I'd have thought if it's sitting between your DSL router and your LAN, you could assign a LAN address to it.

You mean a LAN address to the WAN port, that would mean a local LAN address and WAN address which the appliance does not want to accept.
