IP Zones

Could someone please explane what the zones are used for with IP extensions. Whay do you need them and what are they used for?

Zone tell the switch the maximum badwith and whether to use compression or not and the Zone intent(main office, Branch office, Virtual trk).

All IP devices must be assigned a zone

You can also use them to specify different time zones so that the phones display the right local time. Handy for when you have a CS 1000 in one time zone providing service to IP Phones in a different time zone.
