I have to configure an IP trunk card (32 Port Voice Media Card) to connect to two BCM 50's in different locations over a WAN. When I read the IP Trunk documentation I found that I have to connect a DCHIP PC card (which came with the order and slots in to the Media Card) to an NTAK02BB SDI/DCH card. The order did not come with any such card and I wonder if the installation can go on without such a card. If it is just any SDI port that is required, can I connect it to one of the 3 SDI ports on the main cabinet? Is it the same?

Help to resolve this matter will be deeply appreciated.

Thanks
George

yes you can use your vacant ports

no cannot connect to those ones!
Do you have a signalling server on that site? if you do, you don't need the DCIP card (with rls above 4), cause you can configure a virtual DCHI.
But if you are under rls 4 or you don't have the SS, you will need that (PCMCIA card) and OTM 2 to setup everything.

Atleast it's what I remember.

but maybe someone more expert in this matters can give you a better advise.

if you're talking about the 3 SDI port from SSC card (CPU) of Option11C, this ones you cannot configure them as DCH, but if you another NTAK02BB you can use it, of course, but only port 1 or 3, if "my memory is right".

I do not hava an NTAK02BB card and do not also have a signalling server, however I have the DCHIP card (PCMCIA card) which came with the IP trunk card. The system is a rls 4.5.

From the above, can you please confirm that I need an NTAK02BB card at all cost to be able to configure VOIP to connect to the 2 BCM 50s.

Thanks
George

I do not see above if your system is an Option 11. If so, yes you need to have a NTAK02 board to give DCH purpose to a Media Card. That DCH have to be esthablished between PBX and MC board.
Configure it with OTM as ITG trunk, and give the dailing plan.
However, the same kind of hardware have to be set up on the BCM. I don't know if a BCM 50 may have such a connection. For what i know, an IP trunk with BCM/SRG can exist using SigServ. Not sure it's possible to have ITG trunk on BCM...

My system is an Option 11C. Please tell me if there is any other way that an Option 11C can communicate with 2 BCM50's (VoIP) in different locations without the NTAK02 board.

Thanks
George

The only way i know is to have a SigServ on Main site with Rls 3.00 at least, h323 (or SIP)licenses to have a VoIP trunk, configure a NRS in the SS, adding routing entries, registering BCM in the NRS.
On BCM side, configuring IP trunk (with licenses?) and routing.
Then ITG card will act as Voice Gateway from IP world to TDM world and DCH is not necessary on the ITG cause a virtual DCH exist with SS.

Thanks so much Dlesap and Cmptsul01.

My worry is why Nortel did not question the configuration without the NTAK02 when they know the site ID and hence whatever is already purchased.

They sent the 32-Port Media Card configured as IP trunks with the DCHIP card and the related cables to connect to the NTAK02, but not the NTAK02 board itself. From our current configuration (from Site ID supplied), they will also know that we do not have a signalling server, so how did they expect the BCM50s and the Option 11C to communicate.

I am really disappointed in them.

Thanks to you guys once again.

If your system is older than Rls 3.0, Nortel may supply a SS to work as Gatekeeper only. That GK registered BCM. ITG is still used as IP Trunk WITH DCH on NTAK02.
You still use OTM to configure your ITG, including Gatekeeper IP address. Then routing entries are not necessary unless GK route the calls

My system is a rls 3.0, but we just bought the upgrade for 4.5.

Thanks
George

Gigaic,

Nortel did not question the config because the option of available ports must have been clicked.

Going back to your original question, if you have SDI ports on the main cabinet, just go ahead and use them. You dont need any additional cards. I assume you have bought H.323 on the main site and BCM50.
