We are experiencing some random connectivity issues between digital and IP phone sets. From time to time a user will dial from a digital or IP phone to the opposite type and the call will connect however neither party can hear eachother (it's dead air). This just happened to me a few minutes ago and I was actually working in the switch at the time but I didn't see an error pop up on the screen when it happened. Is there a log somewhere in my signaling server or TMDI card that I could look at to see what's going on?

Any suggestions are appreciated and thanks in advance.

What type of system do you have? Is it only TDM to IP or does it happen on IP to trunk calls also? Sounds like you may have a bad DSP somewhere either VGMC or MCG card. I have also seen this when the installer in an Option 81C did not change out the filter on the back of the IPE module.

I would take a look at the VGMC card(s). If you have more than one, then you can disable 1 and make test calls to see if you can duplicate the problem.

The DSPs on the VGMC are only used in calls from TDM to IP, and IP conference functions (Conference Calls and Hold).

Rebooting the VGMC will cause the DSPs to be reset, and may clear up any problems, unless the card itself is bad.

tnphoneman, I have a CS1000 with two signaling servers and two TMDI cards. I am hesitant to disable one of the cards and limit my capability to 50% since this is a 1 in 50 type of problem I'm running into.

Not the TMDI cards you need to check the Voice Gateway Media Cards or Media Gateway Controller DSP's, whichever you have in your system.

NRRB21 TMDI is used for PRI (digital trunking)
MC/VGMC is used for IP (VOIP)

extension to extenison dialing on the same PBX does not need to use TMDI......

The guys here are trying to point you in the right direction, to check the DSPs to see if you have an issue there.

If you are refering to the TMDI card everyone here will be thinking DIGITAL TRUNKING.

Triton101 STAR for you. I think this may be over his ability, he may need to get his vendor involved to resolve this.
