I am trying to explain to a potential customer why I would recommend putting digital phones (5410's) in an office setting rather than IP sets. Just need some input on the pro's and con's of IP vs digital.
I would put in ip phones
More flexible and you need less cabling

IP is future proofing to a certain degree. I would always push IP over digital.
If you imagine you need VCM to covert TDM to IP, if your customer plans in 2-5 years of utilising (utilizing for Westi!) SIP trunks a lot more, they will always need vcm.
With progression towards SIP vcm is not needed (although required for sip setup) if using IP phones only.
With TDM you always need hardware to connect your phones to.
Expansion is costly if modules are required.
IP phones simply connect to a POE/Switch.
IP phones are cheaper than digital.
It sounds better and more modern.
They have busy lamp fields (16 series)
If they have proper network and cabling in place then why are you pushing this.
Thanks for the response, The reason I am pushing digital is the reliability, the wiring is there, less hassle and return calls for IP phone issues, and sound quality.
In a way it is like the land line vs cell phone debate, the land line will always be around, yet the cell phone is very convenient.
Sound quality can be a little issue as ipphones can sound a bit tinny but that is just something to get used to
Reliability is not an issue, digital can be a problem too
Seen stupid thing with old S0 wall outlets and blown up DS8 cards

looks like it has been mostly covered but it does depend on the client.
i would prefer ip in most cases. as tlpeter said it more flexible, less rack space needed, less cabling needed, we have only had clients complain about the quality on IP phones if they have been upgraded from 2030s (why were those phones so bloody good)
TT good post. have a star.
Never argue with an idiot. bystanders won't be able to tell the difference.

I am in Canada and we spell properly in all colours you can imagine
But I still prefer digital sets, then the IT guys are less likely to screw around in it and we have lots of analog lines here and they are not a good mix with IP sets.
