Ip Phones saying "Disconnected"

An admin called the other day, saying that once in a while their IP phones will say "disconnected" The VPN is up, as their network is performing fine. After a few minutes the problem resolves itself.

What causes this? I have instruceted him the run monitor to get a better picture.
 
What version of software etc?

I've had lots of problems with IPPhones saying Disconnected for various reasons!

Are you sure it's not the fact that they set for off hook use and they call a number that is engaged as this will not give busy tone and just disconnect and go back to idle - intended use for predictive dialers!
 
if you want to stay at 3.1 go to 3.1.65
but i think it is very strange
i had over 200 ip phones connected on diffirent site at 3.1.56 and never ever had problem with them
i believe it is a routing problem
check system monitor what happens with the phones
let a pc running with monitor and let the logs be saved on it
then you can check it when it happens again
 
Could have to do with your VPN connection. VPN tunnels build new keys after a specified time and in some configurations this make to phone lose contact with the IPO while rebuilding the tunnel. In this case the problem should reoccur at a fixed interval.
