Hi all

I have another problem, we have 4 ip phones in the company.
3 are IP 2004 and 1 is IP 2007.

The problem i have is with 2 of the IP 2004, they keep restarting from time to time. It can happen few times a day, or it can happen few times per week. There is no rule.

The problem is that the other 2 IP Phones dont get restarted it is only this 2 IP 2004 phones.

What should I check in order to see where is the problem.

Thanks in advance.

What version are these sets and what are you using to power them? Those old square power supplies are notorious for failing. If you're using those, get a replacement and see if it takes care of the problem. If it does, grab a few more. If you're using POE, I would suspect the data switch.

Could be old sets or wiring too but it's been my experience that it is either power or communication back to the bcm.

the version is as they come with it, i havent update them or anything. 0602B76.
They are using power adapter, its not old square one. I got them like 3-4 months ago.

I was wondering if they were phase 1 or phase 2 sets. The difference is the Phase 2 has that silver surround around the screen where the phase 1 sets are just black.

Phase 1 sets cause no end of issues with the newer software on the bcm's. In fact, if you have phase 1 sets, don't upgrade to release 6 or will find that you cannot tone out to other auto attendants, IVR systems ets. You will wind up replacing them all with phase 2.

Trust me, I've been through it twice now.

If they are running 0602B76, they are either phase 0 or phase 1 sets. Phase 2 phones run 0604Dxx firmware with the last version being 0604DCN. You cannot run phase 0/1 firmware on a phase 2 phone, or vice-versa.

well this is the software firmware that is shown in Element Manager for this phones.

For sure i can tell that it is phase 2 sets, because it is silver around the display.

Regarding the software, is there another way to check the firmware?

Software version will be briefly shown on the screen when the 2004 restarts.

i just checked the phones after rebooting, and the firmware on both phones is 0602b76. But according to your description they look like Phase 2 sets.

Can this be the problem why they are rebooting?
So i should update the firmware on the phones, so this should fix the problem with the restarting?

Look at the code on the back of the phone. If it is a NTDU92, then it is a phase 2. If it is anything else, then it is a phase 0/1.

on the back it says ntdu82BA on one of the phones.
On the second, i dont know at the moment, but i would say it should be with the same number.

So the problem with the restarting might be because the phones are Phase 0/1?

NTDU82 is a phase 1 2004. The software on those models has not been updated for 5.5 years and is definitely not as robust as the later models. The problem with restarting is probably due to these being phase 1 models.

And i can not do anything about this right?
Except to try and get phase 2 sets from the supplier i bought the phase 1 sets right?

Your supplier sold you a phone which Nortel stopped manufuacturing 5 years ago. Even the Phase 2 phones are no longer manufactured.
