I have IP phones that are rebooting themselves.

I notice some dropped packets in our 1612 and some latency but overall it doesn't look too bad.

Our signalling servers are running 4.5.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot this problem? (our vendor is "in a meeting" :-0 )

Thanks, Fred

Could be a power issue or that the phones are losing comunication with the node

Are you using POE? If so how many phones do you have running on the switch? Its possible to have to many POE devices on a edge switch, especially if it's a Cisco switch with no extra power supply.

If its not power then you are having data connectivity issues.

You can take a phone power supply and give the phone AC power then connect it directly to the data switch that the sig server is connected to and see if it stops rebooting. If it stops then you'll know its not the PBX or the phone.

There'a a patch for an issue like this. What firmware are the IP phones on?

If the phone are connecto to cisco SW, There a problem on some firmware of the Cisco Catalys SW.

Thanks everyone. We traced a broadcast storm to the sig server. The broadcasts went to a normal level after we rebooted the sig server and the phones quit rebooting. We still don't know what really happened. I am interested in the patch someone mentioned and will post our version once I find out what we're running.

Also, all the phones are plugged into Nortel gear.

Thanks again for the helpful ideas.

Latest GA versions of firmware - 0604DAS for Phase II IP Phones 2001/2002/2004, 0621C3J for IP Phone 2007, 062xC3C for IP Phone 1110/1120E/1140E/1150E. "Nortel recommends an upgrade to these maintenance releases of firmware for all applicable IP Phones and Call Servers at the earliest convenience". If you are running signaling servers, then the Element Manager should be able to pull down those files automatically.
