Have a IPO 412 3.1(56) with 15 VCM and 60ish 5600 series phones (full IP)

When paging to various size groups, 60, 20, 10 the paging quality is totally unpredictable!

Some times it is clear to certain groups then other time it is jittery, broken, garbled etc.

I have tried almost everything but has anyone got any tips for what settings to use under the VOIP tab - I have just left the bottom two - Allow direct media path and Out of band DTMF - selected.

Faststart from the tool kit says don't use with 46 and 56 series handsets but says it is great for reducing the number of messages for audio etc..

Should I enter a static IP in "IP Address" as i'm using static on the phones, silence suppression recommended etc.....???

Normal opertaion of all phones works fine bar the paging!

Also I use call server as the IP of the IPO but defualt gateway I use my layer 3 switch should this also be the IPO IP??

Has anyone managed to get a fully working IP paging system?
One time I paged to all 60+ phones it brought the network down and we are using layer 3 switches connected by fibre!
We had to reboot the IPO and the switches!!!!

Is the IPO capable of what i'm trying to do???

Any ideas?

Cheers

what you are trying to do is notposible for a couple off groups

paging to an ip phone uses a channel off your vcm per phone
so one phone means one channel

so paging to 60 phones is not possible at all
paging to ,lets say 10 phones, is possible

so that is the problem
also there seems to be a problem with paging but i'm not sure what
there is a topic about it

along with the limitations tlpeter describes, there is a know caveat (bug) in 3.1.56 and 5610SW phones

CQ27992

Intermmitant Poor Speech Quality when paging to 5610SW phones

3.1.56

MT_RELEASE_SEP06_3.2

Sorry to disagree with tlpeter but paging to 4600/5600 series IP phones only uses one VCM channel per audio codec, so if all the phones are on the same codec only one channel.

Thankyou jml2665!

Can I Ask where you got the 3.2 Maintenance release info?

tlpeter - thanks for your response but sizbut is right - I have had it official from AVAYA that when using directmedia path (enabled by default) you only use 2 VCM channels despite how many IP phones you page!

I have also since noted:
CQ25911 IP office paging appears to be causing some sort of indefinite packet storm with IP phones.

3.1(65) to fix this!

Hopefully by version 3.2 I may have fixed itself!

Thanks all

now i learned something from this :)
i didn't think off the media path

I went all the way to tier 4 over this issue. I'm still not sure we got it fixed. It seems to work better now but not 100%.

Kept the phones codec on 7.29a CS-ACELP (speech quality ok - not great) have 60+ Ip sets and 200 computers - no layer 3 - guess we are pushing it.

The phones are all 4602SW with a computer haging off the other port and anoth 60 digital sets.

The phones get their ip address from a windows 2003 server so it gets a little harry somtimes.

Tier 4 said to put all the phones on the same codec so they don't have to negotiate - really need a vlan.
