Hello all,

we have been experiencing some problems where if the primary CLAN in the MCIAPPD, option 176 string fails, the phones stay in discover even though i have several CLAN's in that string. The IP Phone just does not "bounce" over tot he 2nd, 3rd CLAN.

the several CLAN's in that string are in different IP network regions. We do this for diversity, installing CLAN's in various port networks due to a power outage etc.
I have the IP network regions setup form each one of my IP Phone subnets to talk to any CLAN.

Basically this issue came up where ip phones went in discover mode and stayed there. We did everything such as shutting down the ports, verified VLAN tag and even statically program a new CLAN in the IP phone as a test.
Still no sucess.

phones finally came up when i reset the primary clan as it was not responding to a ping.

Thoughts.

The IP-network-map entries tie Ip address ranges to a particular region. I dont think your corss region backup will work.

I definitely read something about the clans in the list all needing to belong to the same region-I just can't remember where!
Sorry

The CLAN's in the Option 176 only provide a list of places where the phones can Request Registration.

Once they have that list they pick one address then send a message to CM.

CM replies with a list of address (in the network region AND directly connected regions) that the phone can register too.

You can have have any CLAN in the option 176 and the phones wont neccessarily register to that clan. That is simply where they will request the gatekeeper list from.

THEN once they have the gatekeeper list they will pick one from the list and request registration on that gatekeeper.

We just had this problem and 1 of our CLAN cards was on a bad switch port on our network. We moved it to a working switch port and everything was fine again.
