Hi.

Is there a way to configure IP phones with IP office, to automatically change servers if one is unreachable?

I have a main site with IP500 and remote locations with SOEs.
The phones connect directly to the main site, because of the reporting needs, but I would like them to change to the small office servers if there is no connection with the main site.

Thanks!

Yes, but you need to use DHCP to do this i think. I think that is the only way to do this.

In the option 176 string where you put..........

MCIPADD=xx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the H323 Gatekeeper (Callserver) address. Normally, this is the IP Office Unit's LAN1 address. You can enter several IP addresses, separating each by a comma with no space. This allows specification of a fallback H323 gatekeeper.

Note

The phones will wait 3 minutes before switching to the fallback and will not switch back when the first server recovers, until the phone is rebooted.

Have a look in the docs for option 176.

Thanks for the help!

I will try that.

I was going to suggest DHCP to do this. There is no way you can do this just on the handset as this will only point to one call server.

The only thing i dont understand about this is how does it fallback? Does it do another dhcp request after three minutes?

Oh, btw, you are going to have to use a windows DHCP to accomplish this.

You need to have the ability to create custom options etc.

I think perhaps he may need to reboot the IP Handset to get this to work also.

Its certainly an interesting subject and would like to see if this works well.
