I'd like to try an IP based phone on our Avaya Definity. It looks like it might support them. The Avaya IP Softphone works anyway. We currently use 6416's and 6408's.

Would anyone be willing to help me with that model of IP phone I should try? Cost isn't really an issue. 16 buttons would be best.

We're running G3 Version: V9
Maximum Concurrently Registered IP Stations: 200
IP Station? y

IP Registrations by Product ID:
IP_Agent : 200
IP_Phone : 200
IP_ROMax : 2000
IP_Soft : 200

i think the only ip phone model supported on 9 was the 4600 sets. you might have some trouble finding them, maybe not.

for Definity 9 switch software, the firmware for the 4600 voice terminals must be 1.1.
for Definity 9.5 switch software, the firmware for the 4600 voice terminals must be 1.5.

obviously you already have a TN2302 MedPro and a TN799 C-LAN.

after some research, only the 4612 and 4624 ip sets will work with that release of Definity software.

Thanks very much for the great info!

I'll order one and play with it. Any advice or known caveats with them?

yeah, they were the first generation ip phones that came out around the time of the IP600/Definity One. they aren't very feature rich due to a very small LCD screen (google an image of them) and your Definity software release, but they are a VoIP set and can work.
the earliest Definity software release i ever saw use ip sets was G3si 9.5 at a bank in Providence RI.
just make sure your C-LAN and MedPro boards have the latest release firmware for the hardware versions of those boards.

is your G3 a Prologix, SCC, or MCC cabinet?

I don't know what type of cabinet it is. I've never been asked that before.

Mainly this is just for me. When I work at our remote site I've got the IP Softphone but it has autoin disabled. Dialing the feature access code doesn't work and the autoin button is greyed out. Makes it hard for me to test issues that come up. I'm hoping that with the IP Set autoin will work as normal.

I'm comfortable with the care and feeding of Cisco CME systems and their phones so I assume the Avaya won't give me much trouble.

Digging around on the Avaya site now looking for firmware. I found the manuals.

I ordered a 4624 Gen II and set it up. Worked great! Thanks for the help.

Hey HuweyII

Do you have a medpro in your system? I am trying to do the same with a Prologix R11 but I don't have a medpro so I think I will have just basic IP funtionality not been able to call to a analogs or digital phones. I tried a 4602 but it didn't registered to my system. Thanks in advance!

Yes I do have a medpro card in my system.

Card TN2302AP, HW11 FW107

HuweyII, Thanks so much for the response. I forgot to ask if you also have a IPSI in your prologix. Thanks again!

if it is a Prologix, it would never have an IPSI. i don't think Prologix cabinets can be used as a Gateway.

PBXTech. Thanks for the info. I should probably open a new thread, but I am wondering if you know what IP phones are supported in Prologix V11. Thanks again!

ask and you all shall receive. fyi: this is only for 4600 series sets.
