Hello all,

I have an IPoffice install with around 25 or so IP phones in two buldings. I have the two buildings linked through fibre between two D-link switches.

I have a problem where I occasionally get calls that only have one-way communication, or calls get dropped. This happens to internal and outside calls. The installer advised me to set all my switches' ports to "100M Half-Duplex" . Has anyone else been told this? did it fix your problems? I find it hard to believe that it's the cause of these problems.

I have noticed however that the phones seem to connect both using half and full duplex seemingly randomly.

Any suggestions??!?! Thanks!

Phil

Hi Phil,
Look at the network load between the two buidings. You may need a "layer 3 switch" at each end to allow ip packets to have priority.

Thanks for your input.

My switch reports that there is very little load (1-2%) on the 1000base-T fibre connection between the buildings.. even with calls and file transfers taking place. My switches support 802.1Q QOS, but I don't have it configured since the installer wasn't familiar with configuring QOS for use with the IP phones.

Do you think other network traffic is responsible for the one-way calls? I would think it would just result in poor quality.

What model of IP hard phone & what ip hardphone firmware revision are you using?

I'm using the 4602SW phones mostly, with a few six button IP sets. How do I find out the firmware revision? Thanks!

We Have a problem with a sight getting OWT with the ip4602 handest running firmware 1.8 (as supplied on the 2.0 admin cd) this is under investigation by avaya as they have a number of issues.

The installers put on rev. 2.0... so I'm guessing that the 4602 phones are probably rev 1.8 as well. How common is the problem with your site?
