I want to use tcp/ip only on my network with netware 5.1 sp3. What services do I need to have running besides tcp/ip on the server?

You will need to setup SLP on your Servers...

Select one Server that will become your SLPDA, or SLP Directory Agent, and type SLPDA at the Server COnsole prompt.

On the rest of the NetWare Servers, edit the SYS:ETC\SLP.CFG file. Use the following syntax when editing SLP.CFG...

DA IPV4, <IP ADDRESS OF SLPDA>

NOTE **** You may have to clear the READ-ONLY flag on the file to edit it.

Once that is completed, at the Server Console, type...

SET SLP RESET = ON

You should get back 4 messages telling you that SLP has been successfully reset and is now connected to the IP ADDRESS of the SLPDA Server.

Its that easy.

Good Luck.

It is also worth configuring DNS via the SYS:ETC\RESOLV.CFG file.

Depending on the size of your network, it may also be prudent to have more than one DA server. There is no need to go mad (as SLP works ok over a decent WAN link), but for DR purposes you can configure your SLP.CFG with two DA servers (providing you have set two up as detailed above) -----------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your good information. I did just as you said and you were right, it was just that easy.
