I have an IP office 8.1(73) with Dect R4 (1 master base) with qty 7 3720 dect phones on it. The problem i am having is the 3720's will randomly not ring and when trying call out the phone says system unavailable. i have the users programmed on a 7316 and when the phones are not working the red light is illuminated. they have to power down phone and power back up to get phone to work again. sometimes we have to reset base to get phones to work again. We replaced the base, upgraded firmware and called tech support. no one knows what the problem is. the phones did seem to work better on earlier 3720 firmware. Please help.

This seems like a compact base station where there are too many phones in a group.
It then needs more channels then the base station can handle.
Then issue happens.
Been there some that.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

By group do you mean the number of phones on that one base. Or the number of phones in a huntgroup. What would the solution be, installing a slave base and assigning half users to that particular base?

Well, if you have a compact base station, a hunt group in collective mode with more than 4 members, and all these members are connected to the same base...one or more of the handsets will fall out.

Even worse if you do this in provisioned install, they will unregister completely.

Compacts are not suitable for larger systems, use regular base station if you know there will be more than 4 phones connected simultanously.

Kind regards

Gunnar

We had similar issues wih Kirk DECT stuff, solution is to reduce group size to avoid the issue, unpopular but that's how to fix it :)

I might add that this thing even happens if you have a hunt group with 3 members presented with a call, and there are 2 non-members talking on the same base station.

Kind regards

Thanks guys, on the compact base you are limited to 4 phones/channels. I've called distributor tech support muliple times and could'nt get a correct answer. I will use Tek-Tips from now on. We are gonna put in the DectIP RBS V2 now for 8 channels.

Good decision[thumbsup2]

Kind regards

KyBoy, it took me 6 months to find this cause (with pauses in between ofcourse)
It is such a strange problem which only happens to the compact basestation.
My customer had 2 compact basestations on a floor and i swapped them for two normal basestations and the problem was gone.
It could be that your distributor did not see this problem yet and that is not even strange as it is such a rare problem.
Tell them to not forget this one and keep your trust in them for now.

Avaya could have made it clearer, they have it documented in Product Description that Collective groups are not supported, but they do not mention it in any installation manual :-(

Group working
Wireless handsets may be programmed as members of groups and attract calls in the same manner as any other extension within that group. DECT handsets must NOT be configured into collective groups.

And you will have the same problem with 8 channels base station if you have more members in your collective group.

Lodde, Only the compacts have this issue.
On the normal basestation it will not ring the phone if there no channel available.

Collective is indeed not supported, and the problem occurs when you put 5 dect's in a colletive HG and ring the group. It will work for a while but try to call the HG 30 times or so and one of the dect handsets stop working! And can only start to work again if you reboor the handset. So make the HG with max 4 users on collective, but still not supported.

It should not matter Bas.
If there are not enough channels then the phone will not ring (not long enough to pick it up)
Only the compact basestations are terrible with a collective huntgroup.
If you need collective groups with dect then be sure that there are enough channels available at all times.

The IPBS has in total twelve channels. One channel is reserved for broadcast messages and two channels are reserved for synchronization. Alarm from handset can occupy nine channels but only eight speech and/or messaging can be handled simultaneously.
