I've just inherited the management of an IP403. It currently runs standard POT phones. The owner wants to open an office an adjacent bulding that has a single CAT5 cable link back to the IP403, but he wants to add about 3-4 phones. What I'm thinking is using the cable to connect to a switch and running IP phones instead. Will this work, and apart from the switch, phones and VCM module is there anything else I need or am I trying to do something impossible

Yes that can be done and no you will not need anything above what you mentioned (as long as the switch is POE/you have bricks), as it's IP phones as far as the system is concerned they are just handsets on the network, it doesn't matter that they are in different builings :)
