I have a customer with a ip 500 v1 at the 8.0 level software.
I want to configure the ip office and phone to enable the phone to work at a
home office.
I hope my questions make sense I have studied tips and manuals to get a handle on this
but dont have experience with IP phones. Here Goes!

a. I have had conflicting veiw points on this question and dont want to waist time
on this if it wont work. According to IP office manager help (remote h.323 extensions)
The 9600 series phones are capable of being used remotely with out the use of special VPN firmware.
I interpet this to mean that a VPN deos not need to be set up in the senaro the document describes, just configure ports on the 2 routers to allow traffic. Does this apply to ip office v1 ?

B The document states that a public ip addres forwarded to the ip office is used as the
call server address. How is that done? Is that forwarding done in the router settings?

Any instruction or links to information would be helpful. I sucessfully entered a text file
to get the vpn option working on the phone but I dont have it woking on the Local Lan as of
yet.

Go easy on me. I am not a IT guy just a phone guy with a litte IT experience. I do have a IT guy on site to help.

I just had the same problem and I couldn't get it to work without setting it up as a vpn phone. You might be better off just following the documentation for vpn. It's more secure anyway.

Ok datadump. Any direction on "how to" VPN setup would be appreciated.
