We received an IPO 500 V2 with an essential R9 license all brand new, we proceeded to put the boards in with the SD card and turned on the PBX for the first time. System did not boot, kept solid red LEDs. Went into DTE and noticed that system was loading the image but was not un-compressing it and then it rebooted and started all overagain. Proceeded to format and re-do sd card on 9.1, system kept loading the image and then rebooting or starting all over again with solid red LEDs.
We then decided to re-do the SD card with 8.1, the system was able to boot and everything seemed to work OK, we then dropped the 9.0 licenses and proceeded to upgrade to 9.0 but after the system successfully upgrade we keep getting "Unusable until upgrade license is added". We tried everything resetting the IP Office, re-format the SD card and we cannot get it to work.
We called our distributor and they insist that it is a low level because a call or a page was made but we have not even gotten to the point were we can actually program anything and that has not happened. The only thing we tried was connecting a 1408 to the PBX while we were working with 8.1 plus isn't it supposed to have like a 90 or so day grace period?

In DTE we see the following:

ASBC. Second Watermark in Invalid
Valid Second Watermark
Software License Grace Period Day=200 Grace allowed=2
Software License Grace Version 6
Allow license handler to run early....
Attempting Config Load from FILE...
.
.
.
Control Unit type IP 500 V2 last version 9.0.4.0 build 965......

Distributor tech support is recommending an upgrade license or a new controller, I find this hard to believe, this is the first time we see this, any ideas?

It sounds like the V2 cabinet was PCS 14 or lower. If that is the case, the unit has to be loaded with R8.1 first before going to R9 or R9.1. Either way, if no calls were made you should have been able to go to R9.1 after loading R8.1.

I would have your distributor send you a new IP500V2 cabinet.

Also, no grace period going between major releases.

As mentioned, when receiving a new chassis unless it's PCS14 or higher it needs to be booted at R9 or late R8.1 so the bootloader gets upgraded (the 9.1 bin file is too large to boot on older chassis without doing this) it should then be powered off without any handset connected or anything, then load 9.1 onto the card and boot again, you are then good to go. I suspect if a handset was connected then someone will have gone off hook and tried to do something when you booted it at 8.1 and in doing locked it to a lower version..... or the system was previously used/refurbished (that DTE text would suggest it was used 200 days ago) :)

I just checked, the unit is PCS13 and we have two more installs on our work bench for today that have PCS16 on them and yes we connected a 1408 when it was on 8.1 but the phone never worked, it got stuck doing the firmware upgrade. I got a bit more from DTE, distribution is suggesting an upgrade license, should we demand the license for free since it seems we got a very old controller box? We really need to get this box out the door today, we cannot wait for a controller box.

We rebooted one of the PCS16 that we have on 9.1 and it shows the same exact message about the grace period day, the only difference is that the version is 8 instead of 6.

I doubt your disti will give you an upgrade license from what I have seen prior on this forum. You could ask, but my guess is that they will want to send a replacement cabinet.

Perhaps that's not what day 200 means then, but it was just a guess :)

But I am still wondering why did the system locked up on whatever it thinks it is now when we could not get an extension to work and/or make any calls?? Additionally and the most import question I have is why is a brand new unit PCS13 with a 9.0 or 9.1 SD card coming from an authorized distributor? I will confess that this equipment was not purchase by us but by another BP that wants us to install it for them. Could it be that they got shipped a refurbished unit by accident? If the controller is indeed brand new, to me it feels more like buying a brand new 2010 car when you paid for a 2015, what do you guys think?

RE

Distributors have many on stock, when new stock comes in that goes to the back of the shipping queue, they don't bin older stock just because newer stock comes in. Much like Laptops/PC's, they always need updating when you open the box, they're not just days old when you get them :)

And BTW if a "new" car isn't customised/optioned up to the max and no revisions have been made when delivered to you it could easily have been sat for well over a year sometimes longer depending on the manufacturer :)

Control Unit type IP 500 V2 last version 9.0.4.0 build 965

The unit has been used (calls made) on R9.0.4 so with a essential edition license R9 it should run with R9.0 but not with 9.1, then you need a upgrade license.

Software Licence Grace Period Day=200 Grace allowed=2
The Grace allowed=2 means that the Grace priod has expired as the Grace period cannot be used on new systems from R8 (or is it R9?) and higher

We really need to get this box out the door today, we cannot wait for a controller box.
then you will need to get the upgrade licence & fight it out with your distributor later.

if there was any way around this then Upgrade licences would never be sold :)

That is exactly the problem, it is not working. We received the R9.0 licenses and the licenses have been loaded and are coming back as valid but when you go into monitor it looks like if the system is unlicensed.

This morning we received a new replacement controller unit and this time it is a PCS16. Now, what is the correct procedure for the swap? Should I just pull the SD card from the other controller unit, put it in this new one, boot it up and we are good to go or do I need to do something special? The reason I am asking something that is a 101 IP office is because the weird issues have not stopped coming in this week and I am beginning to freak out. I did exactly what I am describing above with a 7.0 unit, the system came right up, monitor came back to live, SSA connected but when I tried to go and pull the config just to have one besides the one I had already pulled from the original box, manager simply refused to connect and kept pooping up a network failure error while directly connected with my laptop to the LAN2 port.

You are safe booting with R9. Rebuild the SD card to 9.0, boot then install your 9.1 license then install 9.1 upgrade. And whatever you do, do not so much as even plug a phone in until 9.1 is successfully installed. Might not hurt to video record the whole procedure. I had an 9.1 install fail too and I never made a call. My distributor was good to me and replaced the unit but with a warning it was one time only.

If it is PCS16 just recreate the SD Card in 9.1 and boot with that card. Make the first call and the system will be branded to 9.1

The licenses I received are for R9.0 can I put them in and then upgrade to 9.1? I looked the material code in the knowledgebase under 9.1 and it doesn't come up but if I search under 9.0 it comes up right away. I do apologize for the questions, but when we sell a unit we always sell the latest release and that is what we purchase and rarely have to be messing with this kind of a deal, in fact, we do not even think about it we just install the latest release and proceed.

Never though about doing that, not a bad idea, yesterday I spent half a day trying to prove that it was not our fault. The other BP run me through their own tech guy and even Jennes but they all concurred with me.

if it is licensed for 9.0 then install as 9.0 not 9.1, if you try to install as 9.1 or upgrade then you will have the same issue. Look at your licenses and make sure you have 9.1 not 9.0.
Mike

I don't know about any difference between essential edition license R9.0 and R9.1 besides the material code.

I was plying one last time with the branded system and I came across this, does this mean that the PBX is making calls on its own and automatically branding the PBX? I do not have a phone connected tot he pbx. I read on this forum that monitor will show you on what release the PBX is branded but I am still unable to see it. Where can you look to see what release the pbx got locked on to?

On the upgrade screen I see that it is licensed 6(R8.1) Required License 7(R9.0), it does have the 9.0.
