Hi

I am having some problem with SIP on Avaya 8.1 the SIP lines are Gamma IPDC and when I run a stun no matter what I put in it comes back blocking firewall but the sonic wall is fully open. I read a post from Hairless support monkey that said the build in stun server can be used for Gamma. Any idea how to set this up?

Cheers

Dave,

Im sure you still need a STUN server in place to use Gamma

My FAQ here:
I use stun.ekiga.net

Do an NS lookup

> stun.ekiga.net
Server: dc01.vale.local
Address: 1.0.0.11

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: stun.voipbuster.com
Addresses: 77.72.174.163
77.72.174.161
77.72.174.165
77.72.174.167
Aliases: stun.ekiga.net

They use a load balanced or round robin based DNS. Its a shame the IPO doesn't use host names in their STUN settings rather than an IP. So pick one of the returned IP addresses then hit "Run Stun" and watch what happens in Monitor.

Or,

Command prompt ping stun.org will also pull a result. Throw that info in manager.

HSM's info is pretty good and specific.
The question forms a part of some of the ACSS exams.

Kids, Kids, It's Avaya. You're both right.

Indeed, Gamma say you don't need STUN (I find you do if you want it to work), even that they hate STUN (as they are idiots I guess). They will also give you a huge range of ports they say need opening/forwarding on your router (they don't). This is why we don't use Gamma so much :)

What error are you actually getting through when you dial in/out, regardless of stun server. Gamma say they do not want to use STUN servers and it is possible to setup SIP without it, but as previously mentioned it may be necessary.

Best bet is to run Monitor and make some test calls and see what error messages you are getting back, if any. if you then need help from there you need to let us know what errors you are getting.

The ports are just 5060 and 6000-40000 just for reference.

I was getting one-way speech last time I tested it. The customer will not open that port range as its daft.

It is daft indeed, if Gamma invested in some decent SBC's then STUN and port forwarding isn't required anyway, you need neither with our trunks :)
