Hi All,

I am have installed several IP Office server editions in a VMware environment but this one is causing me problem. Once the software is installed as a VM i should be able to login to it using root as the login and Administrator as the password. This is before i have completed the kick start. I get the same problem if i try to browse to I can take the same software and install it elsewhere but there seems to be something about this particular environment that is causing an issue. I can login to the unix with login Administrator and password Administrator but when i try to su to root i still get the "incorrect password" error. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Are you using the OVA file or installing from the IO image?

The root password should be set as part of the ignition process. It can also be changed from web administration.

Why are you trying to access the server is this way, it is very rare that access to the Linux operating system in this way is required

Hi There,

Sorry perhaps i didn't make my clear, as part of the installation you meed to deploy the ova file and during this you are asked to configure the Virtual machine properties i.e CPU cores, memory and disk space etc. Once this is complete you can power on the VM and once this has powered on the manual tells you to go to to configure the server edition or application server or secondary server. When you browse to this url you are presented with a screen that the login is automatically populated with root and the password is suppose to be Administrator according to the documentation. Also if you open the console to the virtual machine you are advised to go to the same url for configuration. Also in the manual from the console you should be able to login using root and admin if you want to run the system-config-network command to change the NIC IP addresses

I hope this clears anything up

Tony

So what you are saying is that you have not yet been able to complete the ignition process?

I would suggest wiping the VM & starting again. possible using the ISO image for an interactive installation

I have never been able to SU to root before.
I would try to Login as
Administrator then Admin then root

I used to have super powers but my therapist took them away...

Ignition is done through
Never ever use the ISO image to deploy SE on VMWare.

It is documented to log into Linux to change IP addresses as long as you are not able to reach the default IPs.

Try a new OVA ? What version of VMware are you installing this on ? 6.0 is not supported.
:7071 is correct for the ignition process .

I have tried both the ovf files for 9.1 service pack 5 and 9.1 service pack 6 both had the same problem

The version of vmare i am using is 5.6

I can login as Administrator using Adminsistrator as the password and i get the bash prompt it seems to think user admin does not exist

many Thanks

Try to login via SSH with user Administrator. Then step to enhanced cli by entering 'admin' and enter user Administrator again. There you should be able to set root password or to login to root shell by entering 'root'. The cli looks different in VMWare console.
