I have a customer with the basic version r8.1.63 with a combo card, 5 phones and 3 lines, when voicemail answers calls it will not release the line unless you phisically pickup the phone on that line and hang up, I have checked the system and even downgraded to 8.1.57 thinking it might be a release issue, any help would be appreciated

is it analogue lines ?

if it is get your line provider to set open loop disconect to 800m/s and set the IPO to 500m/s( usually default) , In my experience ring the telco and ask what they are set to first then tell them you want the change making.

yes analog lines, it only happens when the voicemail answers the call, when the person answers and hangs up it works fine.

Ok so try the above , the vm is not seeing a valid disconnect signal from the network.

unfortunately I just talked with the bell guy, I beleive he thinks I am talking greek

This has to do with timer.
Adjust the disconnect clear timer to the right time and test.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

im using uk terms but as tlpeter has pointed out it may be disconnect clear , just tell the guy at bell to change the timer that sends the disconnect signal down the line to 800m/s , or play with the setting on the ipo and hope you get lucky ,go up and down in 100m/s jumps.

Also make sure the Telco is not providing voicemail MWI on the lines.
