Hello all & thanks for taking the time to read this.

I have an IP500 system & I am trying to make the paging work on phones & the speakers.
Here's the way I have it setup.
Analog ext-set to IVR Port. This is connected to a Valcom V9940 Page adapter. Speaker is an V1030C Valcom horn.

I setup a hunt group called paging & I have added all the extensions that i want to page including the ext for the horn.

i setup a short code to dial paging & that works except it doesn't hit the horn. I can dial the ext for the horn & it works fine, but not when you try to page all.

I would like to get this to work. Alot of my customers that are getting new systems mostly had Partner ACS & this was a good function on that system.

Anyone got any tips/tricks advise for this????

Thanks again.

The analogue port would need to be set as paging speaker to work in this way, try that then try the shortcode feature "dial paging" to the extn first :)

I have done this recently with several customers. Set the analog port to a page port. Put the phones and the ext. for the analog port in a hunt group. Program a group page key on the phones and it should work. I have not needed to use a paging adapter for the horns, just supply power to the horn and audio from the analog port.

Practical Recipe:

1.- using a simple analog set
2.- disconnect handset and save it out there..
3.- identifies 2 wires in handset spiral cable what connect with speaker and connect them to input of amplifier (system paging)
4.- connect analog phone to ip office
5.- configure analog set as paging speaker
6.- create short code *xx, dialpaging, ext
7.- dial short code and paging!!!

Saludos..

you might need a 480 ohm resistor from radio shack to "hold" the page port open. the paging port does not stay open for most valcom equipment. Just use the 480 ohm resistor to short the tip and ring and then continue on to the paging input on the valcom from the analog port set to page port. put all of the extensions including the page port in a collective hunt group. then create a shortcode with the action of dial paging with the target being the hunt group extension number.

Thanks everyone for the responses. It has been a great help. With your help I have eliminated the V9940 unit. I know we have been using the Valcom unit to add music to speakers in an office, but we had always known the IVR port setting. When it is set to the IVR setting you get a return dial tone after a page or as soon as its hooked up. The V9940 eliminates that. But I set it up as suggested for paging speaker & it works fine. I also setup a short code to just hit the speaker only & it works too.
I did however wanted to solve the problem of music. With the V9940 inline it just wouldnt work. I did however use an V2000 unit which has music inputs. I play the music over the speakers. When I page it cuts the music off then comes back on after the page is done. Thanks again all!!! you have been a great help.

You aren't going to believe this one! I found a way to use a Nortel set as a "paging adapter" I took a beat up Nortel 1220 IP set and:

-unscrewed the backplate
-gently opened the phone up
-put the screws in a safe place
-cut the leads to the phone speaker
-attached the phone speaker leads to a Radio Shack RCA jack instead of the phone speaker
-gently ran the cords out of the back wall mounting holes in the backplate
-screwed the backplate back to the front of the phone
-attached the other end of the RCA jack directly in a sound input on a TOA amplifier
-Set up a page zone just for that phone
-Dial the paging access
-Adjusted volume output for feedback
-Paging sounds as loud and as clean as an airport....

(Can also be used for loud bells) Its a bit Rube Goldberg, but who cares if the phone is locked away in a Switchroom?

If you have a phone laying around and an empty sound port on your amplifier, total cost $10.

If you can use a 3rd party SIP phone, Grandstream already has an RCA jack on it. You can adjust the phone to turn on for Auto Answer and the same output will occur without much Rube Goldberg effort. I am not quite clear if Grandsteam SIP phones will work on Avaya IPO.

Nortel Blue Joe

Indeed, have done similar with old Avaya Ip/digital phones, cool if you need it :)

Thanks for that info. I am going to try this on one that doesnt work. The horn that I have setup @ my office works fine without a resistor but one at another site doesnt. keeps getting a busy when i call it directly.
