IP Office or Partner 5

I'm a newbie to phone systems.

My need 4 Lines 8 extensions, 1 Fax, Auto Attendant and Voice Mail, Music on Hold, Call Routing, Pickup Group

Prices being equal what is a better system an R7 Partner or a IP406

both are on their way out but a IP Office has more features

 
If VoIP service isn't needed, the Partner ACS is a fine choice. The current version is the R8 and the processor alone will support 5 lines x 9 extensions.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.
 
Thanks, being a small retailer it adds more capability then I have now and within budget and support.

other options would be Norstar CICS with calpilot, or a bcm 50, both of these are now owned by Avaya they are very reliable and easy to work on.
 
Partner is end of life, for future investments you better choose another system like IP Office which can emulate a PARTNER system.
 
The IP Office version of the Partner, while it does add features not available on the ACS, its embedded voicemail isn't as functional as the Avaya Partner Messaging.

With the Embedded voicemail, you get only 2 ports and a small number of hours worth of storage (I don't remember the exact number). The capacity would put it in same ballpark as the Partner Voice Messaging.

Compare that to the capacity of the APM (up to 6 ports, 200 users & 100 hours of storage).

There is a lot of Partner ACS hardware out there. I have not seen an official drop dead date from Avaya for the Partner ACS.

So while the writing may be on the wall for the Partner ACS, it is still a very viable system and there will be hardware available for a long time to come.

Well the M storage of IP Office PARTNER ersion is:
up to 6 channels, 500 users and 15 hours of storage.

The only difference is the amount if storage.

Knowing Avaya my guess is that the PARTNER becomes end of sale soon because they have a alternative and Avaya wants to focus on two product lines : AURA for 250+ users and IP Office for 2 - 250 Users.
I have seen that happen with a lot of good systems which good not handle IP telephony.
 
Partner ACS R6 - R8 (new, of course) is a better choice than the Partner version of IP Office. It's easier to install and maintain; the voice mail options are superior to embedded messaging; it has been "burned in" for about 20 years without any major problems (yeah, yeah, I know about the initial R7 manufacturing issues, but the were identified and eliminated in a matter of months).

Look at it another way: if you install the ACS, in 12 or 15 years (or even more), the system will need replacement, and if you or your customer are still around, then you can argue about the choice then. It's likely that neither one of you will be; nor will the Avaya marketing personnel who have been pushing the IPO version; nor will the engineers who are responsible for designing either version. Telephony will be a different industry in 15 years, and it's doubtful that the desk set as we now know it will exist.

So: make it easy on yourself and your small customer and put in the ACS.

Very true: With technology changing so rapidly, it's almost impossible to predict how things will be just a few years down the road. [sad]

By the way, the IP OFFICE is not an Avaya design. It was bought from a British company, lock, stock and barrel! If you read the documentation it is quite obvious by the terms and descriptions used, it is not American oriented at all!

For access code they use short code, etc!

You say that as if it was a bad thing
so far every 'new' feature added to the IPO to Americanise things has been a backward step in usability.

What is the deal with apperance keys?

Why do I need to know what line it cam in on?

all this abomination does is waste 2 of my keys!




 
One reason to know what line on which a call arrived is, to answer with a specific company name, or department, or other related situations. Some of the stuff on these new systems is not very logical, and too many steps involved to handle the call. I think call handling should be simple for the station user.

If the abomination wastes your keys, then reprogram the phone! Or get one with more keys...

The display on the phone tells me which company/dept the call is for.
the line is no use what so ever as it is usually a DDI call and can be on any line.

Too many steps???? phone rings,look at display, pick up phone, if you can make it simpler than that I'm listening.

The important part of PABX is the 'A' Automatic.

Before Apperance keys were introduced on the IPO I never found any scenarios that needed them, they now cause nothing but additional problems.

no Apperance keys & redial does not work ???
1 Apperance key & user cant transfer

so I need 2 keys with Busy Last CA set to make it usable

2 keys used for no gain over a single line telephone
 
If i could give ten stars then i would give them.
Apperance keys is the most stupid thing i have ever seen on a telecom system.
 
What appears on the display depends on what was programmed in the system. And evidently some programmers aren't very creative in properly designating this stuff. Not all phone systems have DID numbers in the USA, may be they do in England.

Try the LG-Nortel IPECS that is a wery compact system.
In the US it is named Vertical (Vodavi) Telennium.

Just for the decision makers: Avaya announced the end of sale for all PARTNER systems, so when they are out of stock you can only buy hardware on sites like e-bay.
Software development will stop as well.
