We have several customers complaint that IP500 fail to send system hold music while on placing calls on hold. It could not resume even after system reboot.
We tried to upload another music file (by Manager with system reboot) and it seems to be back to normal, but the problem may then come back after few days/week...
The problem may occurred on both R5.0.8 and R5.0.20. Is there any setting get wrong, or idea how to fix it?

I have had it once yesterday on an IP500v2 on 6.0
I did not hear the music but a strange noise on the background.
But it only happened once.

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

If the system reboots it needs the file to be available to download from the address listed in it's file server field, if it's a PC running Manager then Manager needs to be open so the system can take the file as the system doesn't keep the file after a power down or reboot :)

It can stated as workaround at this time, but Avaya has to fix it if it is a bug commonly on IP500 systems.

But do you have the same issue as i had?

We did not heard with noise but "do-do" sound while on hold (i.e. tone instead of wave sound). I suppose the system first try to send hold music, and then send "do-do" sound if the wave file not available (?!) at that time.

Yes indeed.
Do you know that every time the IPO gets a reboot it looses the MOH ?
Like said, it must be on a tftp server so the IPO can download it.
In your case this must be the primary folder of the SD card.

I missed that part.
I was pretty sure that is was a V2 :)

Those customer were installed with Voicemail Pro, i.e. no memory card (CF or SD) installed.
Where is the file storage? How it can lost (or file index crash)? Did you mean those uploaded file will be lost after system reboot?

Yes, it's saved in the systems volatile memory and always needs to be available following a system reboot, it has been like that since the beginning of the system and anyone trained to sell/install them should know this. The file server can be the VM Pro PC as long as Manager is open and the wav file in the Manager directory or you can put a cheap compact flash in the 500 with the wav file on and make it's LAN1 address the file server and that will work too :)

If the music file is upload and suppose the system is running without shutdown/reboot, why the system could not access music file on hold?
Is that VMPro provide tftp server as Manager?

It can be any tftp server.
Manager is also a tftp server but then the music on hold file must in the folder where manager is installed.

Set the TFTP address in Manager to any machine on the network that is permanently on (such as the VM Pro server).

Install Solarwinds TFTP service on that machine

Make sure UDP port 69 is not firewalled.

Place your Holdmusic.wav file in the TFTP Server source directory (typically c:\TFTP-Root).

Problem solved.
