Hello,

We ordered 15 IP endpoint licenses and 5 Avaya IP endpoint licenses from our vendor. Instead of sending an Excel file (which they have in the past) with the keys, they sent us a new SD card and said the licenses were on the SD card and we needed to swap it out on the unit. We've added licenses to our unit before without messing with the SD card. Does anybody know why we would need to change out the SD card just to add a few licenses?

Thanks

No reason, they're just being idiots/cheap, I guess they may have had an SD card that had those licences already assigned, however it will invalidate your current licences by doing this. Also it needs to be on the same release as your current system and you'll lose messages/recordings on your embedded VM (if used) etc etc :)

We have 2 units and they initially sent us an Excel key file, but the keys were created using the wrong unit's serial number so they turned out to be invalid. So, in trying to fix what they did, are now saying we need to install these new SD cards which, they say, contain all licenses that are already installed on our system (they have a copy of our config file from a separate issue). They haven't given any kind of explanation as to why we need to do this which is very frustrating. Luckily we have VM Pro so we won't have to deal with lost messages and recordings.

Because licences aren't refundable, so they'd have to foot the bill. You better hope they have it on the correct version, transferred any existing licences to it and has the config already loaded on then :)

What I do not understand.

If the vendor already had the SD card with the license on it. Why didn't they swap them theirself and send back the SD to Avaya?

Yes I noticed.

Or they are lazy.

Did they ask you to return the 'old' sd card?

I'm still waiting on them to provide an explanation as to why this is necessary and instructions on the process to swap them out. They mailed the SD cards to us and they have been sitting on my desk for a almost a week now.

Not sure if you're a partner or customer, but it sounds like you're definitely getting the run around. We've never received licenses loaded on an SD card unless the card's serial number was applied when ordering the license. If you're a partner, time to find a new distributor. If you're a customer, its time to find a new partner.

In both cases.

Swap the licenses to the existing SD card, and keep the new SD card.

That way YOU will have the new licenses twice for the price as one.

Let your 'partner' solve the paying issue with Avaya then...
