Ip Office Info

I have been asked to recommend a new Phone System \ Data \ Voice \ Video solution and have found the IP Office fairly well recommended (this site has been particularly helpful). Has anyone any good or bad comments on their own experience.

We are looking at 7 sites across 2mb WAN links and approx 10 voice channels per site.

I have some experience of the IP Office and many other systems. I would say that the IP office as a data routing product is pretty weak in comparison to a normal router. Take the following into consideration when looking at this type of project:

1. IS Quality of Service for Voice Over IP provided by IP Office or do you require a seperate router.
2. Are there any requirements for IP Handsets at the brach offices(Maybe cheaper than installing seperate switch).
3. Are there any Dedicated IP Handsets
4. What routing mechanisms and networking features are there if a WAN link fails (VPN over ISDN PSTN)
5. What about Mobility (DECT). Is there an integrated solution.

I would also consider the Siemens HiPath, The Alcatel OmniPCX Office/Enterprise and the Swyx. I think all of these are a match for the IP Office in this enviroment.

in answer to your questions

1 yes the QOS for VOIP will be handled by the IP Office
2 ip handsets for approx 5 users per site
3 as above
4 x21 for data and ISDN PSTN for voice
5 approx 6 dect (sales) per site

Have looked at a 3 site WAN in Scotland and found the phone system and data routing to be fine for the IP Office.

Looked at the HiPath and got some quotes but found to be Very expensive compared to IP Office. The network being quoted with the Hipath was also Very expensive (double the cost for both network and telephony kit)

Hi, our experience with the IP Office for VoIP has been very favourable, it would be good to know where the various nodes are as there are some new flavours of BT "wet string" to connect sites together, many of which are not distance vectored price-wise.

One thing to consider is you WAN Network Design, is this a fully meshed network or point to multi-point. Ideally it would be fully meshed therefore preventing a single network failure resulting in your entire VOIP network failing. With this network in place you'll also have to consider whether or not you'll be using centralized Voicemail or each site with it's own? Also you're going to want to get Service Level Agreements on the WAN facilities as well as ensure that QoS is supported and will be implemented network-wide (LAN's & WAN) ensure VOIP packets are treated as a real-time application.

With all of the sites utilizing IP Office you'll be able to take advantage of Small Community Networking which offers some pretty advanced features between all of these sites, Call Parking/Pickup, Station Status, Conference, Transfer, Caller ID, etc.
