We have recently installed two IP500's that are using Partner mode, digital 1416 phones and a couple of 3920's. On both systems we have installed, we are finding digital phones that intermittently will not break dial tone on a c.o. line. Once the phone has been unplugged/plugged it works fine.

On the first system, we have changed all the hardware except for the handsets themselves and still have the problem. Has anyone else had any problem similar to this?

Are you trying to break dialtone by grabbing an outside line directly? If so, did you run the "automatic balance impedance match" tool under analog options for each line? I haven't dealt with the Partner version, but I assume it is there like IPO mode.

Thanks Telcomboy, yes we did run the automatic balance impedance match tool in Partner mode.

Today I connected a PC to capture the logs, opened a ticket with Avaya but have not heard back yet.

I had the problem both accessing the line directly and I also was able to dial 9 through the intercom, get the line and then not be able to break it. So the keypad worked to dial the 9, just didnt work after the line was selected.

Hmm. Post the sysmon trace of the event where it does not break dial tone.

We had one like this as well. we replaced the hardware and i am pretty sure it went away. that may have just been luck.

Well, we finally got an answer from Avaya. The solution is to upgrade from 6.0 to 6.1 which I did yesterday. The upgrade was released on 2/24/11.
So far so good from the customer side.......

We had a couple of other issues with the caller ID not consistently logging or giving new call status light on a 1416 phone. There is a new feature in the Partner mode, it seems that it gives you the option to program three stations as logging phones, I have it set up but there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why it stores some calls and not others. I called from my cell, saw the number and waited to VM to answer. No new call light on the log button but using a 3920 cordless and calling it internally it showed the internal ID as well as logging the call and lighting the light. I'm stumped on that one.
