Is there a way to check group messages remotely?

Yes.

Create a short code just like *17, but without the "U".
Create a menu option on your aa that transfers to the short code.
Put a password on the voicemail tab for the hunt group you want to check remotely.

Or point a spare DDI/DID to the destination "Voicemail" :)
