We have an IP Office 403. E-mail alerts worked when the switch and server had a public address but now both have private addresses and are behind a firewall on the same subnet. Also, the is an e-mail server in the DMZ that relays to the private network.

Another change that was made is the key server and voicemail server plug directly into the phone switch where as before they were plugged into a lan switch.

Before I go down the road of opening ports on the firewall or allowing the DMZ server to relay I want to make sure there isn't any wrong on the IP Office end, so...

1. Is there a way to test that the alerts are working but are not being "relayed" or sent? Who should be logged into the server; i.e. the administrator or mapi client?

2. What should I check to make sure the configurations didn't get goofed up during the reconfig of addresses? The internal address of the e-mail server is specified in the configs.

3. Does the internal e-mail server also have to be the LDAP server or is it that by default if it is a domain controller? IP Office uses LDAP queries to get the info it needs, right?.

There is a MAPI client installed on the voicemail server and it can send mail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Assuming that VM is working & can see the IPO check the following

1) the VM PC has a Mapi complient email client & a valid email account (You sya this has already been checked)

2) if running VM Pro as a service chech that it is set to log on using the user name & password of the profile with the Email account.

this should be all the setup that is needed.
if you need to test set logon to sysem account & tick alow to interact with desktop
you should now be able to see the VM event window

Sorry for waiting so long to respond but this issue stil exists.

I can log on locally with the Voicemail user account and send a MAPI mail message to my account fine.

The VM service is actually using a domain user to log on, should it be set to a local system account with interact with desktop selected?

It was working fine then an "Avaya Engineer" did a firmware upgrade, could this have affected it?

The VM Service must log on as a Domain User, not Local Systm for VM to E-mail to work. Is the MAPI Client logged in as the same Domain User? Also, what MAPI Client software is installed? What is the version of IPO VM software?

Yes the MAPI client is the same user.

Outlook is the client and 1.3 firmaware and 3.3.26 is the Manager version

how could i forget -- the exchange server requires a certificate. does this need to be configured in VM some how?

What version of Outlook, 2000SR1 or 2002/OfficeXP

Is the Voicemail Service service starting / logging on under the same name that the PC is logged onto the domain with?
Is the the Exchange account configured on the VM Server using the same names mail box as the Account the service and the machine is logged on with..

VM to email, is normally dead simple using SR1 client, it gets hard when you dealing with Outlook 2002/XP

ipo.gif

Yes

yes

I can open Outlook on the server and send an e-mail from the VM account just fine.

Can anything like LDAP seetings, routes, where cables are plugged affect it?

When a notification is sent is it initiated by the switch or the VM server?

LDAP setting have nothing to do with the MAPI configuration

Sorry for all the questions

Is the IPO and the Exchange server now on the same subnet ?

PROCESS
When a message is left in a mailbox it checks to see if the user has email enabled, if yes looks for the email address, the VM server then passes/creates the email message using MAPI to the Outlook client on the VM PC. The Outlook client then sends to the exchange server and out

I really need the debug output as you can see the entire process happening. DO not log the service on as local system and interact with desk top as previouly asked. This will not make it work.

Make sure as well (FOR TESTING) the Voicemail account that everything is configure for had DomainAdmin rights, incase for some reasons its a rights issue, the chances are it is otherwise it would not have the rights to launch the VM service

Yes Exchange and the IPO are on the same subnet

Are there any known issues with MS SPs?

This is all it has logged so far --

Hi

All the above is showing me is a calling coming in and checking you conditions in VM pro.
You need to have debug view running whilst you place a VM into a mailbox which is configured for VM to Email. if using 2030/2050 you can press voice / message / enter the extension number / record / stop / submit

You should then see in debug view if MAPI is logging in correctly or not.

Sorry -- the rest got cut off

There is nothing in the debug referencing MAPI. ALL users have the e-mail alert enabled.

The VoiceMail Pro trace you posted does not seem to give any indication of it sending an email alert.

What version of Voicemail Pro are you running?

(when you get here there's no where else to go!)

When you start up your voicemail server you should get the following trace messages sent out on the debugger :-

MapiUserLogin=.....
"MAPI Logon OK" or "MAPI Logon Failed"
Name "x" => "y" where x is the name of the extension and y is the email address.

You may also get

"EMAIL Name not resolved"

Can you verify if you get any of these messages on the debugger when you start the Voicemail server.

In fact could you please post the debugger trace output when you start the VoiceMail server.
