You'll have to forgive me if this question seems stupid but my only experience with the IP Office has been the maintenance of installed systems. A customer of mine was given a IPO 500 V2 controller and he wants to use it to upgrade the pbx at a hotel he owns. I've calculated that this will require the addition of 8 Phone30 modules for the guest rooms, etc. and another Combo module in the controller for the office phones, outside lines, etc. I need to know if these can be added without having to add anything to the licenses on the controller. I was able to download a configuration from the controller and found out that it is running release 7.0 software. What do I need to see in the licensing to know if this expansion will work?

Wait... you plan on having 240 phones in rooms and a single combo card for office phones and you only plan on having 4 lines... or am I missing something? Are you completely barring all rooms from ever making an external call??? Seems like if you have 240 rooms you would need more then 4 lines just for office use let alone the rooms. Also the customer is well aware of the price of 8 phone30 modules? This is a rather large upgrade to be based on given a control unit for free...

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

It already has one Combo module and a VCM32 with a PRI. They have only 8 outside lines now (and this is more than enough. I've run traffic measurement and had 5 as the most ever in use at one time. Everyone uses their cells) and 9 digital sets. They plan to have fiber pulled to the building in the next few months and want to eventually move to the PRI.

I still find it odd to buy 8 phone 30s based on getting a R7 control unit for free but I digress.

Since you are running R7 you would not need an essential edition license so you don't have to worry about a small upgrade license not working with the expansion modules. If you end up with a full PRI you need to purchase additional PRI channel licenses. If you only have 8 channels from provider you do get 8 for free in IP office. I can not think of any licenses that would cause an issue and R7 should be fine for Phone 30s, 2 combos, and a VCM32 with PRI on it. Other then PRI channel licenses you should not need any licenses based on what you are proposing provided you don't have any information left out or I did not miss anything.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Well if he is taking it over he can default whatever is on it and put it into Standard mode without a license.

I think it is way cheaper to deploy cheap SIP phones in the hotel rooms (if there is a LAN connection) as buying 8 expensive IP 500 Phone 30 modules.

Thanks, critchey. I agree with the first point in your reply. He seems to have it in his head that it's capable of running the whole hotel with just the addition of some phones!

I decided to start up my laptop and get the complete license list here:

3rd Party IP Endpoint 5
Advanced Edition 255
Avaya IP Endpoints 20
Customer Service Supervisor 1
Power User 5
Preferred Edition(Voicemail Pro) 255
Receptionist 1
SIP Trunk Channels 20

At the 2 hotels I service that have IP Office systems they also have a Duvoice system for the voicemail and the maid's room status update functions. Will they need one here also or does the Voicemail Pro add that functionality?
