Hi everybody, I wonder if somebody can help me, please.

I am at the point of testing Avaya IP office Unit 403, Do not have any phones connected but got 403 unit and i cannot get an access to it.

My ISP provider is Telewest it seems to me like the ip is a static one. So i have set the network like follows:

There is ISP (cabble), then 4 port router (to 3 ports i have connected 3 pcs, and the other port is left for ip office 403 and the rj45 goes form the 4th port from router to 8h lan port on ip office.
Now i want to get an access to ip office so i've connected my pc with Manager (admin soft) on it to one of the remining ports available on ip office lan.

i've got the internet access so everything seems to be ok, but it's not, after ip config shows private address 198.168.2.72, there is a ping response, so i assume network configuration is fine..

After opening the manager i'm looking for ip offices available and is not able to find any. udp ON PORT 69 on firewall opened, broadcast message to find ip office set to 255.255.255.255, even tcp searching area "covered" with all private addresses available.

this ip office is a 2.1 version perhaps, i am running manager version 3.2, but is chould be compatible backwards anyway.

will the ip office work if there is no static address ??

if there is someone who knows what is going on, please give me some advice;

The default ip address of ip office should be 192.168.42.1
Turn off firewall and Internet worm protection in antivirus.
Try to ping 192.168.42.1 after you turn this stuff off.

If using an older computer you might have to use a cross over cable from the 403 to your NIC card.

You may need to set up your PC with an address of 192.168.42.2-254 just to be on the same lan as the IPO then login and change your IPO address to something on your network and all should be ok.

My first step would always be to go direct from the PC to the IP Office with no intervening equipment. That removes a lot of issues.

?Was this a new IPO, if so was it connected to the router when first switched on. ?Does the router do DHCP.

All of that will affect whether the IPO has started as a DHCP client or as a server.

Try setting the PC to DHCP client and see if the directly connected IP Office issues it with an IP address.

Once you get into the IPO config you most likely need to set it to have a fixed IP address in the same subnet as being used by your router, disable the IPO's DHCP functions and set the IPO's gateway IP address to be the routers IP address.

It sometimes happens that the IPO gets another IP adress than the default one.

One way you finding out the current IP adress of the unit is to reboot it while you're connect through the DTE port.
It will list the current IP adress in HEX while booting up.
